Delay In Printing
 

I recently reinstalled my printer since it wasn't printing in color, even though all the settings were correct. That problem has been corrected, but now there is a significant delay once I hit the "print" option. After googling the issue, I went into the control panel and selected local ports. This has not corrected the issue. I would appreciate any help in resolving this issue.

Just call the HELP/SUPPORT line in your manual or return it and get a different printer.
It would have helped if you listed the make and model #.
My printer is wireless all I know from the time I hit print. When I get to my printer the copy is waiting

Need more information. The printer model, wireless or not, and the type of computer or other device you are printing from.

If you are printing to a wireless printer, try printing from a tablet or smart phone and use a different printer "plug-in" app. There are several free printer apps available for download. You can install them and enable them one at a time to see which one works best.

Try unplugging the printer, and the router, I have had similar problems and this was usually able to clear the problem.

I can almost guarantee that this advise will not work unless you plug the items in again. But you knew that, right? :icon_wink:

My printer is an HP Officejet 3830 with a wireless connection. I am only printing from an HP desktop.

If printer is close to the computer, get a connection cable. Always works Best buy should have one.

I would do two things. First, download the software and drivers for your printer from this website.

Then, download the "HP Print and Scan Doctor" program from this website.

Official HP Print and Scan Doctor for Windows | Free Download hppsdr.exe

Hopefully, these downloads should diagnose and fix the problem.

If Post No. 9 doesn't help, I would try to print something from your smart phone and see what happens. Both the phone and the printer need to be connected to the same wifi network.

You might need to update the driver. But before you do that, try this:

Power down your computer.
Press the power button on your printer - hold it in, until it starts to shut itself down (most people don't realize it will do this - there's no "off" button, and unplugging it is not the correct way to power it down).
Power off your router.
Power off your modem.

THEN

Power everything back on in this order:
Modem
Router
Desktop computer
Printer

Wait for each step to complete, before going to the next step. The modem will take the longest.

Remove then reinstall the drivers. That should fix it.

I have that printer model and it does act up once in a while.

Try shutting down the printer (select shut-down on printer screen) and then start up again. Restart router as suggested already.

If you can print from a cell phone and not from a laptop, Windows might be the issue. First try Windows Printer trouble-shooting tool. Try deleting the printer in windows devices menu and then re-add it again.

Also try adding HP-Smart application to windows and your cell phone as it has better trouble-shooting than Windows.

There is no issue with your printer, modem or router. It simply takes time for Apple, Google, IRS, NSA, Alexa, etc. to download your data before it prints. Do what I do. Given that I'm retired there's no urgent need for any printed documents. So, I hit the print button then I go into the kitchen and make myself a margarita (or two). If it still hasn't printed I then turn on an episode of Monk or House. The printing is usually done by then for some reason I feel relaxed instead of anxious. Hope this helps.

I agree. There is likely no problems with your printer. A color image contains much more data than B/W so it takes longer for the printer to process. You might want to look at your printing resolution settings or draft options. Usually reinstalling your drivers/software always resets to the highest quality, ( so the printer manufacturer can show off, and get you to reorder ink.)
