The water quality here
Does anyone else here think the water is very harsh? The minerals or what ever is in the water is terrible on my metal in the shower and the sink faucets. It also seems to be doing a number on my skin also. Ive lived in south Fla. almost all my life and since we moved into the Hadley section my skin is also always flaking and dry, and my hair is always itching. Has anyone else had this problem? I was thinking of adding some sort of water system to correct the problem. Has anyone had the water tested? Would appreciate any info if you have added a water purification system...

You mean to tell me that you cant see calcium or mineral deposits in the toilet and the chrome on you faucets is still shiny. Maybe cause u live in a different section. Well thanks for the reply...

Dear Renegade - the very first thing I did when I moved here was to install a whole house water filtration system. I knew I would have to do it because we used to live in Miami and had the same problem with the hard water. Plus I couldn't stand the taste of it. Once I had done that, my dry skin got softer and smoother, clothes and dishes got cleaner, and the tap water lost its awful taste. It's expensive but it's necessary, IMHO. Shop around, there are several water softener companies.

Thanks for the reply on the water. Can u give estimate of cost for the system ur talking about. Im from Pompano Beach FL. and the water there was fine but here even my silverware is getting tarnished and its not cheap silverware.
Thanks again Renegade |

Stay away from those folks that cold call and want to come and test your water. They will propose a system costing $7000 or $8000. The will let you negotiate down to a couple thousand.
Go to Lowes or HomeDepot, you can buy a softner for 5 or 6 hundred that will solve the spotting and dry skin. |
We have been here over a year. We have had a calcium deposits. The water seems pretty good. We have filtration on the refrigerator which is great. We cook with tap water. We find nothing wrong with the water.
Keep in mind that when you move to the villages it seems that the people that you hear from the most are the water softener and water filter salesman. They do not go away until you firmly tell them to. Yoda |
The water is extremely "hard". And yes there is a scale build
up around faucet bases. The pots on the shower room glass and doors needs to be removed periodically with LIMEAWAY.

I have noticed that during the Winter, the water coming out of the cold water tap is not as warm as it is in the Summer.

We live in Hadley too. Nothing different than in Ohio. I have a firm rule to wipe down the shower with a squeegee (sp?) and wipe off the chrome. The only person that follows it is me, same as in Ohio. Have had no calcium build up in toilets. Drink filtered water from fridge. It may be the cause of all of my new wrinkles. I hadn't thought of that. :ohdear: |

The tap water without the filtration system is a lot healthier for you than the unregulated bottle water one purchases at the store. Look up contaminated bottled water on the internet and you will not buy bottled water again.

We had a water softener in NJ and liked the feel of the water and the savings on soap, etc. When we move to TV we got a water softener and like it. We did go through a spell where we turned it off because of some health problems and could really tell the difference. After the problems went away, we restarted the softener and feel good again.
We too noticed spots on the chrome fixtures in the tub and shower when we first moved here. In fact, we had the fixtures replaced. Since installing the softener we have had no problem with spotting. We deal with All-in-One Water and Solar (352 326-9595). Z |
I have lived in the Village of Amelia for 2 1/2 yrs. and one of the first things I noticed was the poor water taste. I'm sure there are a lot of chemicals added to ensure that it is perfectly safe for all the residents. I drink a lot of water and solved the taste problem with a very inexpensive Britta water filter you can buy almost anywhere. I've never had a problem with calcium or lime build up and spray down my shower with Arm & Hammer "Clean Shower" after every use. I suggest you give the water filter a try before you invest in a very expensive whole house system. Most of the time you don't have to use soft water. Good luck!
