Does anyone know if anyone can convert the gas cap gauge to an in dash gas gauge in an older Yamaha Golf Cart?

I don't know if Village Discount Golf Car does this type of retro fit on older carts, but when I purchased a new cart from them last spring they installed an in-dash gauge to the new cart which only had the gauge on the tank screw cap. They have 2 stores, one on 466 (which is more of a showroom) and one (with their garage/workshop) just north of the corner of 441 and 42. You might consider stopping in the store and asking. I don't have any idea of the cost for this feature, since I negotiated the deal on the condition that they provide the in-dash gauge as part of the original quoted price.

Save your money and just lift the seat up and look at the tank. If it's getting empty then fill it. Works for me.

I don't think it could be because the gas tanks with an electronic gage and fuel pump has a 4 inch fitted top plate which is screwed on.

You have to have electronic sending unit in the gas tank and wiring to electronic single gauge in dashboard. I agree, cheaper to just check gas by lifting seat, I suggest you check the oil level at same time.

I suspect you’re cart was fuel injected? If so the cart may Of been already equipped with wiring and sending unit in the tank? Just had to install gauge and hook it up? Being the basic cart doesn’t have fuel gauge included in basic price? I don’t know this for sure, but suspect it.

I have a speedometer on my cart - should get about 240 miles on tank of gas. Start thinking about getting gas when driven 200 miles.

My neighbor has one on the used cart he bought. I don't think the gauge works right half the time.

Village Discount Golf told me $150 to install the dash gauge if I decided later to get it. I didn't bother with it when I bought the cart.

We were told the in dash gauges aren’t very reliable. Just saying….

Its possible to install a sending unit into the tank and a gauge into the dash. In my quick searches I found a couple examples below.

I searched under "Fuel Gauge and sending unit for golf cart" as an example.

Self installed two
 

I have installed two sets. There is a sending unit in the tank and the dashboard gauge. For the sending unit i chose the vertical float - rather than the float at the end of an arm. The key is getting the right size in millimeters for your tank. You need to cut a circular hole in the top of the tank to mount the sending unit. And run the wires to the gauge you cut a hole in the dashboard for. A hole saw set from harbor freight has the right size for both. (To keep plastic dust out of the tank, i cut halfway thru with the hole saw then used an exacto knife to finish the cut.). Videos are online to help you.

It takes about 2-3 hours to do your first time. Cost in parts was about $55 from Amazon.
When buying the parts there are two styles (0 = full or 0 = empty) be sure to match the correct sending unit and gauge. (240-33 ohm is what i used) - and be sure they are marine style (waterproof). Also need a fuel stable sealer - even though the unit comes with rubber seals i preferred to not have any issues later! (Auto parts store stocks the sealer)

Wiring - connection to accessory wire (ie key is on and wire is hot) and lights - so the dial lights up when the headlights are on.
Did these about 6 months ago - and both are great.
The vertical float sending unit is more precise when fuel is sloshing around the tank. Also doesn’t get in the way of preexisting fuel lines in the tank already.

Wife loves the fact she can visually see the levels without remembering to lift the seat.
