Glenview - Stirrup Cup

Late Sunday Stirrup Cup was beautiful. We played as sunset approached. And the course was in pretty good condition. Very enjoyable.

Only complaint is there were several pin positions that didn’t even come close to meeting USGA requirements…a too frequent occurrence on many courses.

What kind of requirements were not up to USGA requirements??? Too close to the fringe,
too much of a slope???
:shocked::shocked:

Mainly green speed (stimp rating) at the hole location. Slope is of course a big factor, but there are others.

Putts straight uphill shouldn’t stop right near the hole and then start rolling back to you. That happened several times to our group Sunday. It also greatly effects pace of play.

The days pin placement is done in the mornings by maintenance, most of which have no clue as to USGA rules, regs or guidelines. The only thing that can be done is when pin placements are that bad, talk to an ambassador. If there are complaints, we carry balls to check the rolls, and if there is a problem we call the shop and they try to get maintenance to fix the placement. This is another job that very few realize the ambassadors do.

Is this while playing twilight golf at a very cheap rate? Backup to a golf course, twilight golfs play like amateurs and play for price!

Sunset play at Stirrup Cup last Sunday was indeed beautiful! And yeah, the pin positions were challenging. But the way I look at it---

Twilight prices - cheap.
Sinking challenging putts with my Group 21 golfers - Priceless!

It isn't a baby game.................

Just for the record, pin placement does not ruin an enjoyable round of golf for me. It was just an observation. :)
