Christmas in September

I went to Lowe's today and saw a large quantity of Christmas items on display. It’s good to get into the spirit of things but maybe a tad too early for me to think about Christmas? If you need some items early, Lowes might have what you need for a Christmas display. Maybe one should purchase them while in stock as some items seem to be out of stock for a while.

Remember when you went to the store day after Thanksgiving to see the new Christmas items. We always took a trip to downtown Detroit to Hudson’s to see a entire floor dedicated to Christmas displays.

Of course you could alway drive up to Bronner’s if you needed Christmas all year round. Christmas in September is just wrong, in a regular retail store.

We were at Hobby Lobby late August and they were already geared up with the Christmas decorations.

I think it takes away from the specialness of the holiday.

In my native country there were no Christmas displays. Since I was very young I don’t know where my parents shopped for Christmas things. Children never even saw a Christmas tree until Dec 24. I did notice that one room in our house was always locked in the month of December. Then at 6:00 pm on Dec 24th my mother would say to me, we should walk around the block to see if the angel is bringing the tree yet. My father stayed at home. We never saw the angel but when we got home, in the living room there was a fully decorated Christmas tree with real candles all lit. Under the tree was a doll house and a table set for tea. Two porcelain dolls were sitting on chairs around the tree. There were other unwrapped toys as well. I was 5 years old. The magic of that night is still with me. To this day I can see the whole room that night, smell the wonderful smells and feel the magic.

I love Christmas and I don't mind at all seeing the trappings and the ornaments shown early in stores.

In all of my life when things really hurt physically or mentally, I would think of a beautiful Christmas tree. It always makes me feel good inside.

Shocking to me that in a majority Christian country retailers are allowed to take over the holiday.

But we don't fast anymore.

And I distributed the Eucharist too.
