Rogue Cats at Havana CC Patio
 

After hearing several reports of Rogue Cats roaming the Patio at Havana CC, I finally saw it for myself today. Not only did I see several Rogue Cats roaming freely, I also observed Village Residents (assumed) feeding them. Does anyone share my feelings that these Rogue Cats should be trapped and destroyed rather than being allowed to roam freely at a local eatery?

Sort answer is NO.

I do share your feeling of trapping these cats but not destroying them. It would be great if we could have them spayed and neutered and released. Im sure there are many that disagree with this, just my personal feeling.

Is there a group here in TV who does humane trapping and helps to find homes for them after they are spayed/neutered??

I agree that the cats should be trapped and fixed and new homes should be found for them. They are just adorable.
Actually, the first litter of 12 born around Christmas time were trapped by Patrick (karaoke king) but he couldn't get the mother, she was very tricky. He had them all fixed and they are living on his ranch. The second litter was recently born and we'll work on trapping ALL of them, hopefully this time and perhaps stop the constant proliferation of these little cuties. I'm curious to hear why our poster below feels they should be destroyed??? :doh:

We live in Tall Trees and also had a problem with stray cats. This year there only appears to be 1 left and my neighbor continues to feed the cat so I am sure it will not go away. I do not know why the other cats all disappeared. In the Daily Sun and on the radio they are always requesting homeowners to adopt a pet. Perhaps the group that run the animal rescue also removed all the strays from Tall Trees.

The cats only hang out at Havana because so many people feed them during the day. I agree with trapping them but they shouldn't be destroyed. Maybe like the signs by the light house. Please don't feed the animalsT

There are way too many animal lovers in The Villages, and TOTV, to accept the idea of killing cats simply because they presently have no home.

Do not call animal control and do not place cats in a shelter, unless it is a "no kill" facility.

Best Solution: Identify a group or individual to humanely trap, spay or neuter, and work to adopt these cats into homes.

I wonder where you came up with the appellation "Rogue Cats"? They are feral cats and it's not their fault, poor things. Feral cats often hang out around restaurants, especially where there's outdoor dining. Can you blame them for hoping to get fed?

Feral cats are a national problem not just in Florida and not just Havana in TV. Just Google feral cats to learn more. One of the most mentioned things is to not feed them, unless you want them around your property.

Feral cats are rarely turned into pets. They will stick close to one house if fed.

They should be removed. Not everyone here in the Villages are animal lovers. Tell the people feeding them to take them home.

I agree with Chuckinca...feral cats have to be held and tamed while they are very young...or they won't be good pets...Mamma teaches them to be mean so they won't be killed...to survive on the streets. Same with barn cats and they can fight up a storm if you try to catch em. I remember many a scratch I received from barn cats chasing them while I was a young girl. Don't want them to be destroyed though.

They are present in a lot of areas of the country. In Hawaii, they even sell posters with the Island Cats. In Myrtle Beach you will find them near any beachfront restaurant. They have qualities that the restaurant owners like also. They are great predators and will keep any problem with rodents or biugs down to a minimum. They also will usually not bother people unless you offer to give them food. They are just trying to survive.

Bless Your Heart!! If you never sat on the outside patio at Havana, you would never know they were there! I saw them when they were kittens, and they are so cute! Many feral cats take care of the rats/mice hanging out at restaurants and other places. In our travels, we went to an old fort where there was once was a problem w/rats, etc. around the fort, and the caretaker found the only thing that took care of the problem were the cats, after trying chemicals, etc. I don't know why people feel they should be destroyed. Many times after neutering them, they are re-released back to the area they came from or taken to areas where they can go on living their lives outside in a feline colony.
