Veterans Day Flags
 

I had to make a short drive thru the Villages this morning. I was saddened to see that less than one in ten homes were displaying the American Flag honoring our Veterans, especially those who died in war. Why is this? Are the flags at $1.50 each too expensive, is it too much work to stick a half dozen curb flags in the ground or is it simply people don't care anymore ?

Stop and ask the houses without flags.

Haven't seen a mind-reader on ToTV yet.

Lots of reasons.
 

First, people still care, while a few never did.
Still a lot of snowbirds yet to arrive equals no flags?
Lots of renters not in the loop equals no flags.
Lots of full timers, many who are veterans themselves, on vacation and away from home equals no flags.
Some prefer to keep their appreciation, patriotism and prayers personal and private, equals no flags.
Some appreciate the thought but resent the Chinese made flags used most often to demonstrate that American patriotism, like Chinese made lapel pins worn to show how patriotic one is. Again, no flags.
So, just because a house is not ringed in flags, don't assume the owners don't care. There are many reasons that might not be apparent why flags are not displayed by some. My service time, like all my military brothers and sisters, was about keeping America safe and free and one of those freedoms was the right to decide for themselves how to honor those who served or died for our country.

Plenty in Sunset Pointe. We have 15-20 along driveway and curb, plus 30ft. pole.

The possibility of rain might have been a factor. I put mine out after the rain but it appears like it still might shower again.

flags are always nice...what's even better IMHO... on Veterans Day go up to a vet and thank them for their service

There is absolutely no correlation between one NOT showing a flag (for ANY reason or at ANY time) and one not caring for America, soldiers or mom's apple pie. Do you also believe not wearing a religious symbol makes one an atheist? I have a folded flag from my father's military funeral on my wall but don't have 50 all around my property? SO WHAT ? Don't judge others when you have no idea what is on their mind or in their heart.

I’m a multi tour combat wounded veteran , calling out people for not waving a flag is as bogus as a used car dealer showing what a patriot he is with a 100 flags on the lot, I don’t wear a hat or a t shirt with my veterans I D on but if it makes people happy that’s fine . I put a couple of flags out for all the holidays but I don’t have a flag pole my choice. I didn’t need a parade or a pat on the back and the only people I sought respect from were the guys who fought with me ,because there RESPECT WAS ALL THAT MATTERED getting it from strangers may make you feel good but I could care less FYI I go the day before Veterans Day to cemetery and put some flowers on a vets grave , I don’t need to be in some photo op and just like praying in private many of us are maybe more private in our patriotism OUR CHOICE

My uncle, my grandfather, and several of my great-uncles and (now long dead) cousins fought for my right to NOT display the flag if I don't want to. If you have a problem with that, then just drive right on past my house and don't look.

Now my question is how do these patriotic folks take care of those flags?
I've seen so many touching the ground, fallen over, torn and stained and not displayed with honor.

I've also seen bundles of those $1.50 dollar flags sitting on top of people's garbage waiting for pickup. What might their excuse be?
