DOLLAR TREE will be $1.25

News>

Dollar Tree, a favorite shopping option of bargain hunters, will raise its baseline price for items from its namesake dollar to $1.25, the company said Tuesday.

President and CEO Michael Witynski blamed inflation but insisted that Dollar Tree customers will roll with the price-tag punches.

“Our Dollar Tree pricing tests have demonstrated broad consumer acceptance of the new price point and excitement about the additional offerings and extreme value we will be able to provide,” Witynski said in a statement detailing third-quarter company earnings. “Accordingly, we have begun rolling out the $1.25 price point at all Dollar Tree stores nationwide.”

Most of the company's loyal customers understand the nation's struggles with inflation and supply chain slowdowns, and they are likely to stick with Dollar Tree despite having to shell out $1.25 for many items, Saunders said.

IMO these types of stores harm the neighborhoods they are built in by putting local businesses out of business and pushing disposable junk made in China by companies with no moral or ethical guidelines beyond "make it fast, make it cheap".

Understand raising prices but 25 percent seems a bit high

davem4616 11-24-2021 08:58 AM

a sign of the times

$1 or $1.25 , you still get what you pay for which is nothing . These stores actually lure people into buying more of the junk there selling then people need .

I’m surprised the price wasn’t raised more than .25 cents. :ho:

Dana1963 11-24-2021 09:54 AM

And sucker will support them and be thankful the prices weren’t raised $.50. Now it should be called “Dollar Tree & a Quarter”

Dollar Tree Annual salaries of CEO $11 million, Exec Chair $7 million, CFO $5 million

Avg worker $8.32 an hour.

Like it or not it is something we all deal with. The post does not say if they will keep the name. The name does have some value, long business history. DOLLAR TWENTY-FIVE TREE??? I've read that any publicity is good. I wonder. Will they be sued for false claims-probably. Will customers go to check out and discover they do not have enough money or credit card to cover all the stuff they bought -probably.

We were there a few weeks ago and it was still $1.00. TEASING a little. Time to stock up their stuff along with toilet paper? Where to stuff it all?

People have their own view. CEO makes 11 million. I've never been offered an 11 million dollar job. How would you get one? Go out of your way to read about, meet people, get the attention of people making 11 million. It is possible. IT IS NOT EASY.

We all have opportunities. Most people simply walk past them and don't even see them.

History is interesting. At one time England was the place to buy quality tools. Planes, if you've ever used an old English plane they are far better and were far more expensive
then the CHEAP, Stanley, actually invented by Bailey who was bought out by Stanley planes. Today the Stanley planes have been knocked off by lower quality from China and India.

The small neighborhood retail store is gone. They cannot compete in price with on line monsters with free shipping, next day delivery, and lower pricing.
