Tolls on Route to Sanford
On the route to the Sanford Airport has anyone else experienced using the Epass/Uni transponder in a rental car and being charged for the tolls on the transponder as well as getting either a bill from the Florida Highway Dept. or a bill from the rental company charging you again for the tolls. Very annoying and time consuming to get the charges credited.

Rental companies used to ask if you wanted to prepay per day for tolls. When we came from Tampa, we never needed a toll so we signed NO.
Last week not given the option toll fee was included no matter what. Wrapped our transponder in foil and paid their hefty price. |
If you pick your route carefully you can get there and avoid all toll roads. 441 to 46, downtown Sanford then south.

There is about a 1 - 2 mile section where the GPS apps will put you on a toll road when going to the Sanford airport from The Villages. All of these apps (Google Maps, Waze, Amigo) have a setting under navigation to avoid toll roads. Just set this to avoid during this trip, and you'll have no issue.
Remember to turn it back on when you get back - if you go to Orlando, the toll road is the fastest by far. |
