Practicing on Grass, not Matts

Sarasota has been matts only for several months. What about Palmer & Glenview?

I would think ALL ranges are "mats only" this time of year, when the grass tends to go dormant...

Glenview range is grass except for Sun & Mon

Palmer has some sort of system between grass and mat days. Don't like mats, much prefer different tee heights.

As soon as Florida legalizes it, a lot of Villagers will be practicing on grass.

I use mats if I don't get to do grass. I found a relatively cheap set of rubber tees to use on the mats. I just have to remember not to leave them behind.

isn't the only other option mats?

Mortal1 01-22-2022 03:48 PM

I find that mats are great for working on tempo as the consistency of the mat material doesn't vary upon impact. This allows me to focus on the swing as opposed to taking the lie and density/height of the grass into consideration. Since the majority of my tee and fairway full shots are designed to skim the grass mats are preferred for all but inside 76 yards(a full sand wedge).

I realize everyone has their own take, but it doesn't hurt to consider other points of view.

Hitting irons off mats too often can damage your wrist and elbow.
