Who are your most memorable sitcom characters?

We don't watch a lot of TV anymore, but every once and a while a certain television character, or a scene from an old sitcom will come to mind, and bring a smile...

I'm not sure who my all time favorite character is...but, the following stand out:

The stoic/gruff performance of Ed Asner as Lou Grant in the Mary Tyler Moore show

Peter Faulk as Columbo

James Garner as Jim Rockford in the Rockford Files

George Wendt as Norm on Cheers

Carol Burnett...in her variety show

Goldie Hawn as the airhead blonde in Laugh-In

Lucy and Ethel, working on the chocolate candy assembly line

Audrey Meadows, just standing there, with her hand on her hip, watching Ralph rant and rave

And who didn't belly laugh at Harvey Korman and Tim Conway in that skit in the dentist chair?

Or the "Elephant Story" on the Carol Burnett show when Conway went totally off script when they were live, and the rest of the cast couldn't keep a straight face

"The Music Box"...Laurel and Hardy won an Academy Award for Best Short Subject Comedy for this one...The boys struggle to deliver a piano up a long flight of stairs. The stairs are still there...I climbed them while on a trip to Hollywood a few years back

My favorite of all time? — the entire cast of 3rd Rock from the Sun.

When we see Lithgow as Winston Churchill in The Crown or a serial killer in Dexter, we can see what a brilliant dramatic actor he is.

But Lithgow’s comedic genius as Dick, the alien in his human form — as an arrogant, confused college professor — makes me laugh out loud. The rest of his “family” does, too.

And Mrs. Dubcek, their aging, horny landlady, with her cigarette holder and her tacky, exotic wardrobe is a classic.

I think 3rd Rock from the Sun has one of the best casts ever put together for a sitcom. And some of the topics will take you down memory lane to the 1990s.

Thanks for the question, OP. I am a fan of sitcoms, but there are not many good ones anymore. Young Sheldon is the only sitcom I watch now. I always liked Big Bang Theory, maybe because I know some people like those lovable, clueless geeks.
