Household appliance insurance

We had our freezer checked out today and it was under warranty. The repair guy said his company, Assurian, has a plan where you pay a small monthly free, then they fix any appliance in the home for only the $99 service call.

Anyone have such a thing?. Is it with it?

Small monthly fee? Typically, these extended warranty plans are not worth it, and they lock you in to doing business with substandard technicians on their schedule, and who can only get business by sharing their income with a warranty company.

I used to have our corporate cell phones with assurian insurance. When I would file a claim for a broken phone they would send a used replacement phone, sometimes they were already broken or damaged, cancelled that!

never extended warranties

The only reason to buy insurance is to cover a loss so big that you cannot handle it on your own. Are you truly unable to cover the cost of an appliance repair?

Remember, these plans are designed to provide a profit to the company. It will be a rare occasion for you to break even on this, much less come out ahead.

Plus, as a previous person said, you will have to tolerate barely competent repair people.

Insure what you can not afford. "."

We have American Home Shield (AHS). Have used it while living in 4 different states. It's covers a lot of things such as Fridge/freezer, garbage disposal, dishwasher, microwave, hot water heater, washer/dryer, some plumbing etc. Our refrigerator was just 3 years old (came new with our home here in The Villages ), and the temp went up in both fridge/freezer. Luckily we had an old fridge/freezer in garage (that is at least 15 years old and never had to service it!). A few months prior, our dryer stopped working. And a few months prior to that, the dishwasher. AHS came out to fix all. We have a $100 co-pay. If they can't fix it, they give you a new appliance. In the past we have received a new microwave, hot water heater, garbage disposal, fixing of a major pipe leak coming through the ceiling and repairs . Have been very happy with them in all the states we lived in and have never had a problem. They are prompt and professional. We have always seemed to get our money back and more by using them. We pay a yearly fee of a few hundred dollars (not sure of amount as my husband pays it) and then a $100 co- pay if they come to the house. We have had older homes in the past with older appliances and I don't think it matters how old an appliance is. Well worth it to us. I have never heard of the company you are referring to.

You guys needed insurance because you've had a bad lot of bad luck. But obviously the insurance companies make a lot of money from people who never call for any problems . Much better to put $20 away every month and save it up because most appliances last 10 to 20 years

Most appliances made today don’t last 5-7 years. I bought a home last March, and a home warranty came with it. I got a new GE washer for $100 service call, although IMO the washer is junk. My warranty is almost up, I’m not going to renew at $550, but going to pay myself that money specifically for appliances be it repair or replacement.

Broward Factory Service is the best. For a small annual fee they cover your Fridge/Freezer, Stove, Dishwasher, Garbage Disposal, Furnace, Air Conditioner, Hot Water Heater, Washer & Dryer. Basically everything except your microwave. There is NO SERVICE FEE OR LABOR and most parts are covered too. I've had them for years and they've always treated me right and it seems like I always end up calling them once or twice a year and I've never paid a dime for any repair they've done for me so I figure I'm way ahead. Call them @ 352-307-5100. Tell them Tim Carnicom sent you.

I’ve had Assurian insurance on my cell phones for years. Good response and always came through.

IMO, not worth the money....self insure

Check this out- my friend works for AIG- they collect 250 million a day in premiums- they invest most of it back in the market… something is wrong here…

Appliance Maintenance

I whole heartedly second the recommendation of Broward Factory Service. the description given is totally accurate. Small annual fee, zero co-pay or 'service call' fee. I've been a loyal customer for almost a decade and have NEVER been charged a penny for repairs to my kitchen appliances and I've had many over the years. Finally replacing ALL four appliances (they are the originals) and I suspect Broward will be grateful! Their staff & technicians are entirely professional, knowledgeable and courteous. They also do my a/c maintenance twice a year as a separate (small) annual fee. They offer advertised presentations re their services at Panera (Sumter square location) once or twice a month.

According to Clark Howard, extended warranty companies only use about 8 percent of the premiums they collect to pay claims.

Not worth it, there is always a hidden catch.
