Dog carrier in golf cart
 

I didn't see previous threads so here goes:

What's the recommended way to transport a small dog in a 4-person golf cart?

e.g. full crate in the back? Leashed or harnessed to the back seat?

Ok, I'm sure there will be responses such as:
"Don't put your dog in golf cart"
"Carry it on your lap"
"Leash it to the bumper"
etc

But, seriously asking (as a snowbird/renter)

I would ask at a pet supply place. You are not the only one with this question. BUT, we do not know you of your dog. My friends dog looks forward to a ride in any golf cart AND HE BEHAVES.

If, you dog has not regularly ridden in a golf cart he may not like the noise etc and he may be all over the place including, under your feet, jumping out, barking etc,

I've been looking for a small , padded dog bed that fits in the golf basket behind the seat. We would then attach an adjustable leash that connects to the cart's frame (which we already have and attaches to our dog's harness...)

In a 4-seater, I'd suggest a typical car carrier that attaches with a seatbelt that has a leash built in that clips on to the dog's harness (never their collar!)

P.S. Our pup LOVES the golf cart. Whenever we go into the garage, she hops into the cart and waits, even when we're taking the car...

She sits between my wife and I, her harness attached to the basket and frame, ears flapping in the breeze...

We use something like this. There's a strap and hook inside that attached to the dog's collar or harness to keep them from jumping out and wandering around / falling off the cart. There's also straps to allow a seat belt to go through it to hold it firmly in place. We place the seat on the rear-facing backseat of the golf cart. Dog is right next to our shoulders so they are happy. Noses go a million miles an hour sniffing everything in the air, and this helps exhaust them - they sleep like angels the whole rest of the day and night.

we fold down the rear seat and then strap a small crate to it. I put a rug in the bottom for traction and semi-shear landscape cloth on the top and sides to lessen the sun.

Our dog is 10 pounds and she sits between us in the front seat. Works well for us.

I have a small dog who loves golf carts but

I let my dog drive. Surprisingly he does much better than a lot of two legged animals I have seen behind the wheel:bigbow:

Doggie Seat Belts
 

I bought my dog seatbelts on Amazon. He has one for the car and one for the golf cart. Besides not letting him jump around, If I am ever in an accident or incapacitated, I don’t want him running off.

We harness our 25 lb. pup when out with only one of us in the cart. Otherwise he sits in my lap with a leash. We had some experiences when a cart ride was new to the dog. He was startled by sudden noises, such as another dog charging the cart when we rode by, or a delivery truck slamming their roll down door, or a landscaper dropping their trailer gate. We were glad we had a good hold on him as he tried to bolt. Now he loves it & is very relaxed.

Go to Amazon and type in Dog Bed for Car Seat. (I’m assuming that you have a seat belt for each seat.) I got this one for use in my car with my 12 pound papillon. Amazon.com
She loves it and never gets out during a ride. It’s up high enough so she can sit and look out, but she also sleeps in it. If I have to jam on the brakes, she doesn’t get thrown out. If you think your dog might jump out, you can buckle it in with its leash.

Dogs love golf carts. I secure my dog in my 2 seater by placing her in a cars eat that seat belted to the seat then attached her harness to the attached tether. Despite that, I always hold on to her as well. But above all, do not ever allow your dog to run alongside your cart! Someone in my neighborhood does this and it is beyond dangerous for their dog who could easily end up under their cart. Hope this helps

Here is what we did to transport our 17lb dog around TV.

It's a cheap nylon pet carrier from Walmart that I cut small slits into, and then threaded a good strap around the rear-facing 4-passenger seat. Lucy loves the ride..

ps: it's also a great way to stash golf shoes, groceries, etc
