Is this a "Guy thing"

In spite of the trials and tribulations, there is a giggle.

During our many visits to Dr's and nurses, my sweet Doug enjoys his cleverness, without missing an opportunity, while being assisted from a sitting position to standing, I see a twinkle in his eye and smirk on his lips, followed by an audible cloud that fills the room, and a less than audible "excuse me". It's got to be a guy thing!!!

"Sweet" Doug was probably one of those "Hey, pull my finger!" guys. Every group has one of THOSE guys.

Which part is the guy thing ? The audible cloud or the less than audible "excuse me"? My experience is the gals are quick to say "excuse me". A guy gets a double smirk when he acknowledges the audible cloud by proclaiming "did someone step on a duck".

A Blast from the Past

Good morning, jebartle,

Your title says it all. You are absolutely right. It is a guy thing.

A sense of humor is a gift. My dad had a wonderful sense of humor that got him through some difficult days as he aged and became very ill. . .

Dad was a quiet man, a good listener, and an observer of human nature — who could come up with perfect, insightful, one-liner comments — often in situations where the seriousness could be getting heavy — like in the medical things he had to go through.

But even in those most difficult of times, every now and then, he would quietly say a strategic one-liner, giving a lovely laugh to his doctor, nurses, physical therapists, or whoever was there. He used to say, “You gotta laugh.” Our family still tells our “Dad Stories.”

But. . .I digress. . .Now, back to the topic at hand. . .

I have been around TOTV since long before we bought here. In the early years, there was a terrific group of people who could kid around with each other, banter, and have a laugh for the day. (Now — the room that is TOTV has a different feel, mostly. But I cannot seem to stop looking. (sigh))

Anyway, somewhere in the archives here, there is a thread started by “The Great Fumar” who I think was everybody’s favorite poster. The topic was farts and we all had a good time with it.

I can find it and bring it here later. (I might need to do a cut and paste and I still don’t know how to do that on my iPad.)

See ya later — and please tell Mr. jebartle to embrace that sense of humor. . .because sometimes, “You gotta laugh.”

I will return with clips from the archives. I think you and Mr. jebartle will like what I will bring you in about an hour. Stay tuned.

I have always failed to understand why people find crude behavior humorous.

Thanks.

I am on my laptop now which I rarely use for TOTV. It will not let me into the “old” TOTV — and to heap insult upon injury, it will not let me search archives beyond a year old.

On my iPad this morning, my search took me right to the 2008 thread, but I can’t get get to it on the new TOTV version when I use my Surface Pro.

I will see what I can do and if it really is impossible to open the thread in the new TOTV version to do a link or a cut and paste, I will come back in with directions on how to find it on the old version because you and Mr. jebartle are going to really like it. And besides, it proves you right about “the guy thing.”

I had intended to lift out The Great Fumar’s posts, along with one of my own which was a dissertation on how guys think farts are funny and women rarely do. I am pretty sure thinking farts are funny is connected to the Y chromosome — and that’s what I wrote about. . .

I will get us there one way or another because that old thread is exactly about what you said, and we had such a good time with it. . .

there is a sense of humor and then there's crass. I guess if you find this funny you're on the crass end of the scale...little things please little minds.

Boomer 02-11-2022 10:59 AM

je,

Let’s ignore the snark from some posters here this morning. That is what is really stinking up this thread.

Geoffrey Chaucer wrote about farts in “The Canterbury Tales” in 1387. Shakespeare threw in a few farts, too. He was a master of the double entendre. There is a book titled “Shakespeare’s Bawdy” about his humor, farts included. Both of those literary giants understood the human condition, as do/did all great writers. . .

So! We are actually having a high level literary discussion now. ;)

I will get back to work on trying to share ye olde fart thread, circa 2008.
