Want to replace eyeball ceiling light fixtures with pendant lights
 

Has anyone ever done this ? I understand some sort of a conversion kit may be needed as the eyeball framework is not strong enough to support the weight of a pendant light.

I have seen and purchased a Westinghouse(?) conversion kit that as I recall will support 10 pounds(?), I think this is what you are looking for. I believe these were around $15, and have n adapter that screws into the lamp socket and provides 2 wires to connect to the new lamp. I did help a neighbor install 3 of these and they worked very well, you may need to have matching ceiling paint as the trim ring may not be the same size as the existing one.
I may have one in the house that I did not use, let me know if you are interested.

In a house we bought, pendant lights had already replaced the counter bar can lights, but when I wanted different pendant lights, the standard canopy that came with the new ones was too small for the original can light hole.

Canopies can be bought separately, which is what I did, but it took me a while to find one that was not too small by a maddening inch or so diameter.

I think the canopy I finally had to settle for looks too big — so I just don’t look up. Besides, it’s better than seeing the edge of the original hole or having to patch drywall.

Maybe your pendant light will come with the right size canopy. If not, happy hunting to you. Canopies are everywhere but most needed to be just a little bigger for our project.

I bought the kit at Home Depot. Lowes didn’t have it.
Paid $13 for it.

There are kits available that require no wiring. You just plug them into the socket. Check Lowes, Home Depot, and Amazon. The weight is not a problem.

We just did this. We had Grant Electric do it as I didn't want to do it myself (neck disk problem which is exacerbated by looking up for extended periods...).

They had the correct plate and snap in adapter. Looks great!

I don’t believe anyone has ever done this.

Yes, we’ve done it. I bought these conversion kits on Amazon. We had our handyman do the change. And he hung our new lights!

we purchased the pendent lights we wanted and had a local electrician (Hayes Lighting) do the work.....

with trifocals it's tough on the neck working over the counter

I wanted a flat surface. They have the molded medallions if you want, but I wanted a plain, white, flat surface. These are a little pricey, but I got exactly what I wanted.

One light can was on the slopped part of the ceiling, but this kit worked great. I bought my pendant lights from Lowes. I bought a plain light, swapped the included globe with another style globe we liked better, and purchased hollow rods (from another light kit) for the drop wires (didn't like just the plain wire). I had to cut one rod for the slopped ceiling to match length and rethread it, but everything looks great. We use them every day.

I find everything is harder than when I was fifty years younger. To get me to do it, wife has not discovered it yet. Why are you not done yet does not work. You can't do that-that is a dare and it will be done.
