This was on a tree in our backyard. I don’t recognize it and was curious.

TIA.

Stink bug?????

Looks like a stinkbug to me. They like to get indoors. Best way to remove without releasing the stink is via vacuum. YW.

You can buy a spray to kill them. If you squash them they really stink

It's definitely a stink bug. They're harmless to humans but will eat your plants. Having just one doesn't mean there's an infestation, there could be a dozen or so in the neighborhood. But if you have a dozen around (and in) your house, you probably are infested. Indoor pesticides usually don't kill them. Outdoor pesticides usually do. If you just see the one, you could leave it be, it won't hurt you - they don't sting or bite.

The "foul odor" they emit is actually similar to cilantro. And the human perception to the odor is also similar: some people find it horribly offensive, other people aren't affected by it at all.

Thanks everyone!

A pail of soapy water will drown them. We have them all over outside our house in MI and we just drown them.

Not a stink bug. Search safari or google “armored bug”. Stink bugs much smaller. Still harmless though.

It’s not a stink bug. We had swarms in VA and I knew them well.

It’s a stink bug vs it’s not a stink bug. Who will be the winner? Find one and smash it and give it the sniff test!

Looks like a squash bug.

Of course, stink bugs end up as squashed bugs whenever I find 'em.

Not a stink bug. At first I thought the same but something wasn't quite the same, then I saw the second picture.
Definitely NOT a stink bug.
We had millions of them in the summer up north and this isn't one.
Don't know what it is. TCT

Put a leash on it and keep it for a pet
