Chemicals in Water
 

Has anyone else been told they need a water softner by mike scott plumbing?
I have a new home an every time we use the dishwasher my wife has to wash by hand to get the sandy grit off. We had problems with the washing machine malfunctioning due to the same gritty material. It caused a soleniod valve to stick partially open and flooded the floor. It seems to me if others were having the same issue we would hear about it.

Sounds more like you just need a whole house water filter for the grit. Sand probably got in the lines during construction would be my guess.

Since it is a new home it sounds like you should call Home Warranty and have them take a look at it.

Is your new home still under the one year warranty? I would definitely complain to the warranty department.

to get into your home to do a test. They will then tell you why you need to buy what they just happen to be selling.

Yes the water here in TV is high in mineral content. And by most measures the water would be considered "hard" and a candidate for a water softener IF you want softer water. Not a requirement. No hazard to not have a softener.

Sand is one thing. Chemicals are another. Call home warranty....even if it is past a year.
