Homeowners insurance question
We are being cancelled, and a new roof is required. A roofing estimator has shown me blown off and broken shingles and advised that I file a claim. I never get on my roof. My current insuror wants a date the damage happened. Can anyone remember what month and year that many thousands of Villages home had shingle blow-offs around 5 years ago? I am assuming that they will consult weather records to confirm that. Thx for any info.

The date other villagers had the roofs blown off is irrelevant to your situation. You need to prove your damage on a particular day. Going to be difficult in court

How old is your roof?
|
The last time I saw winds hard enough to damage roofs was when hurricane IRMA went through, ours was fine, about 1/4 mile away there were several damaged, but I agree with above this will probably not help you. When I was up North, I had hail damage, the insurance company pulled weather records, found that was a hailstorm 50 weeks prior, the cut-off was 52 weeks for a claim, they covered the back half of the roof that was damaged, front half was my cost.
IMHO, the cost of the roof replacement will be yours. |

The insurance company we had would only replace the damaged shingles ,after there adjuster viewed the damage. Beware of the door to door roof estimates to get your total roof replaced.

Can I ask who your insurance company is?

Their shingles were the same color and style. My roof was fine. :) |

This is why all of our insurance is so expensive. These roof people are only in this game for the money. They could care less how much it cost us later. Sounds to me like your roof is old enough that it should be replaced anyway, pay for it

I suspect those who defend the door to door roofers may have taken advantage of the "free roof". talked to Batterbee Roofing rep who was overseeing a new roof in my neighborhood and he told me how he had done an inspection and the roof was fine. the person then got one of the door to door who found "storm damage" and was putting on a new roof. My neighbor was told by one of the door to door people that "I guarantee I will get you a new roof" without even looking at the roof. and he got one.
what amazes me is that people are comfortable using an out of the area roofer for something as important as a roof. McHale's told me that a lot of the calls they are getting for leaks are to those roofs and the company's won't come back. sure the new roofs look nice but it's not like the county inspector actually goes up and makes sure it's done right....I saw one...they just walk around from the outside. when I have my roof done, I want a local company with a good reputation for doing good work, and who I know will come back if there's problems. |
