driveway widening

I am looking for a company to widen my driveway. I want to add some space to move my golf cart while my car is parked.
I need to ask TV for permission, but what company would you recommend for the job

Depending on what you are planning on doing you may also need a permit from the streets department (been there done that). If you expansion goes all the way to the street, you will need this permit. Also, you will want to make sure the expansion is tied into the existing driveway with steel rods and sufficient footers. BTW, the ARC people had NO IDEA of the street permit requirement, I found out when I was getting quotes, only ONE out of the 3 contractors mentioned the permit.

Who are the street people, Where do I find them? I would guess they a part of county government?

Bushnell office of Sumter county, you can call the Sumter county general number and ask for the streets department, then ask about driveways permits, as I recall.
As for your question about contractors, this was 4 to 5 years ago, I do not recall the contractors, I was able to piggyback on my neighbors driveway project which ended up saving both of us money, as I recall they were using Next Dimension for a large landscaping project which had the driveway as part of the project. No idea if they would normally do this as a seperate project.

I’d check with ARC first. A vet (on this site) widened his driveway (if I remember correctly, a foot and and a half) so that he could get out of his van using his wheelchair. He had the driveway widened and when neighbors complained he was asked to rip it up and return it to the original. I believe his house was in district 6. The deed restrictions are different in the various districts.

I did this had ARC approval, and they were totally clueless about the street permit. Yes both may be required.

I did that on my driveway.
Robie concrete did the job.
They got approval from all the authorities.
I was very happy with the entire project.

Robey

We did not have this street permit. Got ARC approval. We used Robert Robey,
excellent, 352-753-2462

I used Williams concrete (352) 408-7944 and they used steel rods for steel reinforcement. Others did not even mention it in their proposals.

Ask the Builder: Don’t let contractor skip steel reinforcement in concrete driveway or patio – Orange County Register

For smaller companies you will get a better price if you can find a neighbor since they have to purchase concrete in fixed quantities if it is delivered by a concrete truck.

One problem I had was the ARC denied making changes in the right of way next to the street even though every other house on my block did that when expanding their driveway. But I did it anyway since who will know since it looks like all the rest.

Someone may be able to provide a better explanation but for new homes there is a time window in which the ARC rules do not apply and you have much more liberty in making modifications to your new home.

I believe it is before the builder turns the neighborhood back over to the Developer.

I found this out when asking others why they made changes that were not in compliance with the deed restrictions.

You've got it correct. Their changes may be legal, and yours not. Just the way it is. You seem to acknowledge that you are taking a risk and may have to have it removed at some point.
