American Red Cross Seeking Board Members

Hello. I serve on the Board of Directors for the Mid-Florida chapter of the American Red Cross. We are currently seeking 2 new members to join the board.

Ideally, we would like to have them in place before the beginning of our new fiscal year begins on July 1st. They would need to either live or work in 1 of the 6 counties our chapter serves: Lake, Sumter, Citrus, Pasco, Hernando, and Polk.

Any recommendations would really be appreciated, as well as sharing this post. You can contact me at keith.parker@redcross.org.

Thank you for your help.

Listing a minimum of qualifications would have been helpful.

Is there a minimum donation required to the ARC?

In addition to a job description.

This is a pay to play position. A minimum of $1,000.00 must be donated to hold this position. Monthly payments are acceptable.

I speculate this alone limits the number of applicants.

Paying a charity to be on its board? Not interested.

I make donations to help a charity.

Will this member be allowed to expose all the corruption.

That is how most large non profit boards (and most university boards) work - the board donations are basically a line item on the income statement. Could be $1000 - could be 10,000 (in large cities).

So we get to pay them to do a good deed, thought my time would be worth something no thank you

I was on the Champaign County Ohio Red Cross board for six years serving two years as President. My last year was during 9/11 . It was a totally volunteer position with no entry fee. Many changes have taken place in the Red Cross both locally and at the national level. I tried as always to do my best in serving and fell that I don't need to do it again with that organization. Every organization has it's pluses and minuses while they try to serve the public. The Red Cross is no exception. Still, I was proud to have served the Red Cross.

Thank you for your six years.

Sounds like a job with little reward for serving. Time is your most valuable assets later in life

If a nonprofit is worth my valuable time, they are absolutely worth my money. I have no problem whatsoever donating $ to worthy charities such as the American Red Cross. That's the beauty of philanthropy - you can choose the organization(s) you wish to give your time and or $ to. We won't likely all agree on worthy charities - that's OK. Do as you wish.
