Recent college renting then buying in TV?
 

As a recent graduate from fall 2021, at 22 years old I have an opportunity to work remotely for a company in Ocala. I have always looked at the villages as a place I want to live someday, and with this new job opportunity I was thinking I could rent here for a few years then buy something shortly down the road. I was offered a good paying job and can afford TV even with the surging housing costs.

I am a clean, organized, well-mannered young man who is tired of the constant late night partying college lifestyle and wants a community where everyone turns in for the evening early. I love golf, cooking and relaxing. What are everyone's thoughts on such a young neighbor?

This seems just like a post I read from 2021, but I'll bite.


I bought a house in The Villages when I was just below 55 -- my wife is even younger.

To you, 50-54 is probably old. To many Villagers, we are youngsters.

We've been here less than a year and both of us work and will continue to for a number of years.

We live in The Villages, in the same neighborhood as the people around us, but we do not live in their world. There is an important distinction to this comment -- I'll explain;

My wife works from home, but is bound to her desk from 8 - 5 M-Friday. I work in Leesburg and commute from 7:30 am to 5:30 pm.

Most everything is geared to activities during those hours. The pools close at dusk/dark. So, in parts of the year, we can only go on weekends.

Many of the businesses close by 5pm, which was a surprise to us. We have to race after work or leave early to make certain purchases or appointments.

Our neighbors have groups of friends that they spend time with during the day and evening. We don't mind being to ourselves, prefer it actually, but it wasn't really a choice. Life continues on, joyously, when we are working, and we don't participate in those hours of activity due to our careers.

All that is not a negative, it is just pointing out that if you are not retired, there is a disassociated feeling living in The Villages. I suspect that the younger you are, the more the feeling is compounded.

If you get married, the other person will have to adjust (maybe they won't). If you want to have children or adopt, you can't.

There is a nice neighborhood on 466-A in the Beaumont (I think)development that is single family, with nice homes and a nice community center with a pool. There, you can grow up and out as you please. You will still be near The Villages, near good shopping, near nice and maintained environs.

Maybe you are that singular person, who in his/her 20's, is a perfect fit for The Villages. If so, and only you know; Welcome home.

Although I think this post is a setup , I’ll ask why a 22 year old would want to live here among older people ,when there are so many other options , you could live in Ocala , which at least has a fun downtown with many young people at night or Orlando filled with young professionals and lots to do, Tampa another great city with young people , with the ability to work at home you have a great opportunity to enjoy many places in Florida. I’ve lived all over this state and loved every ,place I’ve lived , I love the villages but even at 83 I need a dose of reality by going a couple of nights a month to Orlando and downtown Ocala and some months away from here, but if you do go through I hope you move next to me so I can go into my old and feeble side and get you to do lots of things for me ,because that’s what you’ll end up doing

Jan 16 2022 you were 24 did you find the fountain of youth?
“ I am a 24 year old man, single, no kids, work from home and am looking to buy my first house. I would love to live in the Villages and know about the 80/20 rule when it comes to 55+ communities. I am quiet, and old soul, respectful of others and always maintain a clean living space/ yard. What would be the honest reaction to having a young person live next door?

The OP may not be a troll. The OP may be, simply, a product of his generation. Ya know, the whole "If you don't get the answer you want, wait a while and ask again," or "If Mom says no, ask Dad" thing that seems to be more and more prevalent with the younger, latch-key generation that is more and more a product of broken homes.

Maybe I really am 22 and wanted to see what people would think of a 24 year old before I revealed more information about myself.

You paint a pleasant picture, but the picture is incomplete. My opinion is you and TV would not be a good match. You would be an enigma to your neighbors. Why would young person choose to live surrounded by old folks? Makes one wonder, and just a bit suspicious.
