That was for a Villa, not a Courtyard Villa, and they did it in the front of the home.
You can get approval for the back yard of a Courtyard Villa - it's hidden from view by the walls and the rules are less restrictive. You still need approval for a change like that.
I'm all for putting down turf - as long as you make it all putting green with 18 holes... and invite folks from this topic to test it out:)
Seriously though, I would think long term this would not be a good idea. The Florida sun will bleach it and it will break down, and will be a pain to remove.
