Baby Formula Shortage Resolved
 

The US Shortage of Infant Formula has been resolved one day after the government found that there was a problem. Fact Sheet issued today states that after meetings with manufacturers and distributors yesterday, manufacturers have raised their production output "today" to 30 to 50% above pre-recall levels.

Helping Families Find Formula During the Infant Formula Shortage
To address infant formula shortages in the wake of Abbott Nutrition’s voluntary recall of certain powdered infant formulas, the Biden-Harris Administration is working to ensure that infant formula is safe and available for families across the country. Yesterday, President Biden spoke with retailers and manufacturers, including Walmart, Target, Reckitt, and Gerber, to discuss ways to get more formula quickly and safely onto store shelves. He also announced a series of actions, including cutting red tape on the types of formula parents can buy, calling on the Federal Trade Commission and state attorneys general to crack down on price gouging and unfair market practices, and increasing the supply of formula through increased imports.

Thanks to these efforts, manufacturers have ramped up production 30-50 percent, bringing total production today above pre-recall levels with a different mix of products and sizes now available in the market. Still, it’s clear that too many families continue to encounter challenges obtaining infant formula—especially families of about 5,000 infants as well as some older children and adults with rare metabolic diseases that depend on specialty formulas.

General Guidance
Call your OBGYN or pediatrician to see if they have in-office samples or can suggest a similar formula that may be more readily available in stores and is nutritionally similar to your infant’s typical formula.
You should not water down formula, try to make formula at home, or use toddler formula to feed infants. Don’t discard formula unless it is expired or is part of the recall. Check your formula’s lot code exit disclaimer icon to see whether or not it was affected by the recall.

It's not actually resolved yet, since the manufactured product will still take time to reach the shelves and - people will horde, because of course they will. You may end up seeing stores limit purchases because of that. In fact that may be why the shortage is as bad as it is.

But the big thing is that a closed factory is now open and the quantities produced today are 30 to 50% higher than before the shutdown. I am sure that priorities will insure that plans have been made to insure that supplies can be quickly delivered. If you can increase production that fast , you can certainly insure quick delivery like using Amazons next day delivery, even on Sunday. Perhaps they might even get Amazons help.

Which closed factory reopened? The Abbott Factory in Michigan is still closed for at least two more weeks.

Abbot Labs The same baby formula producer that had contaminated product and led to this shortage used billions of dollars to buy back stock instead of investing in their product safety. Putting profits before the safety of our children is unacceptable.Babies got sick and died Yes the FDA shut the facility down so we know who to blame. There is still a 17% tariff on importation of formula imported from Canada

BS. My daughter is a in research for Abbot, safety is their number 1 through 50000 concern. As someone who has been in medicine for over 40 years, I would trust any company over the FDA any day. The FDA is the post office in lab coats.

Whether it produce, meatpacking, automotive, aviation, or medicine it's always the same story about having such stringent safety measures until they get caught and forced to issue recalls.

Government triggered the problem. Incompetent for not realizing the effects for their own actions. Time for action was weeks ago.

President was referenced in the OP post. Nice to see they are working on the problem they created. Their advice is to search for formula. Seriously? That's kind of stupid advice, of course that is what people will do.
Reality is that you cannot find any, anywhere.
Next are dire warnings about not trying to stretch what you have. You have NONE. Where is advice for a usable workaround? What should someone do with no product and a hungry baby? What is a safe and obtainable replacement? Maybe not perfect, but better than nothing.

A small detail but perhaps the word "migrant" should be used above. The words are often used interchangeably but the word legally is associated with immigrants
