Memorial Day events in and around the Villages
 

Hi,

This will be my first Memorial Day in our Villages home. I would like to take in a local event or two tomorrow. I tried the Villages website and googling a little bit but did not come across much.

Are there not any official Villages observances?

I did see a neighbor post on Nextdoor that in Fenney they are hosting a gathering with reading and flag folding. Does anyone know of other events like this one happening in and around the Villages?

Good question. This is our third Memorial day here and first two cancelled due to covid.

Would hope tomorrows paper will have the info.

Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell will be holding a Memorial Day ceremony open to the public at 11 a.m. Monday, May 30. Florida National Cemetery averages about 7000 burials each year and is expected to reach capacity near 2030.

Veterans Memorial Park in The Villages will host a Memorial Day ceremony at 10 a.m. at the park in Spanish Springs. Congressman Daniel Webster is slated to speak.

Bushnell

Where: Bushnell National Cemetery

When: 11 a.m. Monday

Details: Retired Major General Joanne Sheridan of The Villages will be the keynote speaker. General Sheridan served 35 years in the United States Army in various command and staff positions. Additionally, she was deployed in "Support of Operation Iraqi Freedom” in 2008

Eustis

Where: Ferran Park, 250 Ferran Park Drive

Details: The American Legion Post 41 in partnership with the City of Eustis, will host a Memorial Day Service to honor our nation’s fallen and pay homage to local service members. The public is invited and encouraged to attend



Fruitland Park

Where: Shiloh Cemetery

When: Monday at 10 a.m.

Details: A special ceremony will take place with a lite lunch served after at the American Legion Post 219 for all attendees.
