clothes dryer vent cleaning

Any ideas on how to best clean clothes dryer vent. Is the roof vent shroud easily cleaned? Wife has noticed longer drying times......got to clean the vent!

I was having the same problem. I called Home Warranty and they told me I had to clean the vent...I reminded them that it was up on the roof and they told me to hire someone to clean it!

When we sent our lawn guy up there, he found that the vent was screened instead of having the flaps, so all the lint was trapped...a definite fire hazard!

I wouldn't be surprised if that's what your problem is...check it in a hurry!

Desmond Harris, Convenant Janitorial 352-308-7457 does dryer vent cleaning. Cost last year was about $50. He does a great job. You'll see many recommendations for him on this site and other Villages websites.

We don't do that much laundry but after 3 years it needed to be done. Lots of lint in the hose and at the roof vent.

Another vote for Desmond Harris. Fast, efficient, professional. He will also change your smoke alarm batteries.

Mine

I cleaned mine today. Found quite a bit of lint. Guess it's to be expected since it goes straight up instead of straight out.

Thanks for the info. I told my wife I like doing things the hard way.......so I did it myself. Climbed up on the roof and cleaned the trap door on vent. It was linty, but the best result came from moving out dryer and using my leaf blower to blow out the vent up and out, as well as back into dryer! I had lint flying everywhere, but I got er done!!!! :clap2:

Hmmm, I'm sure ours needs done too but I don't think I'll tell my husband about the leaf blower trick, that sounds messy!

Desmond is the best. About once a year he calls and sets up another cleaning. Will also change the batteries in your smoke detector for free if you have the batteries. Very happy with the results every time.

You can buy a kit at ACE hardware. It has a large brush and several extensions. You attach it to a variable speed drill and stick it in the vent from the inside of the house. Frederick's did it for me when they fixed my oven.

I use an electrician's snake with a brush attached. Sounds like a good idea to blow the lint out with the leaf blower, but some of that lint will stick to the sides of the vent pipe. Besides, I don't want lint all over my front lawn as well as the neighbors.'
