Are there any Deadheads in The Villages? Who are you? Where are you? How are you?

Do you remember having to mail money orders to Grateful Dead headquarters for tickets?

Psychedelic letters Deadheads have sent to The Grateful Dead

I only saw two dead concerts, both at the New Haven Coliseum. At one, someone passed around the wineskin and I noticed he had a great looking leather visor with the Dead skull and rose design on it. I asked where he got it - he said someone made it for his brother, and pointed onto the stage.

Though I don't think Bob Weir had any siblings, he was definitely referring to Bob as a "brother." I ended up back stage with the guy meeting the band after the concert. I don't remember anything about it, but I do remember a stranger giving me a ride home because the people I'd come with had left when the concert was over.

There are many good dead tribute bands. Some do tours like The Dark Star Orchestra
I'm sure they play Orlando or Ocala. I wouldn't say I'm a dead head. But I could hang with deadheads anytime.

Between 1986 to 1993 I saw approx 120 Grateful Dead / Jerry Garcia Band shows. Some of the best times of my life...following the Grateful Dead around the country was like being part of a circus!

It's weird that none of the bands that play @ the Squares don't play any Grateful Dead, surely Truckin' or Touch of Grey would get some folks up out of their seats and dancing! As far as DSO (Dark Star Orchestra) goes, they do (or have) played in Tampa, Orlando, and Jacksonville, but no way they've ever played Ocala.

If you like the Dead but want to check out a great current artist, go to youtube and search for "Billy Strings"!!!

Yes. I know Billy Strings as my wife is into new stuff. I have been deep diving on mid fifties hard bop jazz of late. Many similarities between Miles Davis/Coltrane and Jerry Garcia as players. But I go from obscure 50's rock and roll and R&B screamers to 60's garage and psychedelia, early punk and reggae, stoner metal and everything in between. When I get down there in a few weeks I'll be bringing all my records along with me. I'm even bringing my giant vintage Cerwin Vega speakers. I couldn't bring myself to sell them.

i remember having to sleep out for tix, as there was no such thing as the internet back then, lol. i was/am a Deadhead, followed them during my teen years around the eastern coast. most enjoyed songs were "Bertha", 'Alabama Getaway' & US Blues :a040:

On July 8th evidently there is a Grateful Dead cover / tribute band coming to The Villages Savannah Center:

Box of Rain: Essential Grateful Dead - The Villages Entertainment

Saw the Dead in the early 90s, a friend took me who had followed the band for like 10 years. It was an interesting experience for me and for my friend it was like a family reunion. The parking lot was a sight to see.

When I lived in North Eastern PA there were lots of Dead Heads around, I don't see as many in Florida.
