One-Way Truck Rental

I’m looking for the lowest cost option to transport the contents of a condo located in Pompano Beach, to TV. So far, I’ve looked at renting a 12’ box truck from either U-Haul or Budget and the price starts at ~ $750. The one moving company quote that I received was ~$1,000. Does anyone know of a lower cost option for a one-way truck rental, or other cheaper transportation options?

Years ago I did a one way U-haul truck rental (from PA to FL) with a car trailer for a lot less than what you were quoted. I would check again with U-haul.

There's no reason for such a high rental inside the state, that's stupid even with inflation.

I remember getting a quote outside Florida down from Wisconsin and it was high.
Reason, they say there's more U-hauls coming in Florida then going out and it was costly to haul them out.

Do some checking

As a comparison, a one way rental from Chicago to the villages is running $2000 to $3000. That’s just a u-haul not a moving company. Prices are crazy for rentals now.

Look at renting by the day. Rent here, drive down and back.

Call PODS and get the cost of having a pod dropped off and picked up.

I know a lot of people would pay double that just to leave Chicago and not get shot.

not sure of where you are at but I found that if you return to the same location of pickup it costs less money. I also found Penske to be a tad cheaper the the loading decks are higher

It is a competitive business as you are doing people shop on line. The companies shop each other. As far as renting a truck, I expect a truck with a lift gate will be more. Furniture is heavy. How to get it from ground level into a truck and then down again.
A lift gate makes it far easier. My opinion 750 vs 1,000 might be wise to spend the thousand. I expect that $1,000 quote you will find add ons, fuel surcharge, insurance etc.

Thanks

Thank you everyone for the suggestions. I'm going to explore the options and see what makes the most sense, but things sure have gotten expensive

I used Upack-similar to a Pod but they charge by the linear foot of a trailer that you then lock behind a bulkhead with your own locks; they fill the back of the trailer with other pallets of goods so the cost is cheap. You pack and unload; they drop off and then pick up the trailer. Worked great.

Just wanted to point out I’m 100% Penske now when I need a truck. They are the only ones that guarantee rental. I first rented from them when Budget left me high and dry on moving day - “maybe in a couple of days” 😡. Called Penske and they they matched the price. I didn’t ask for it they just did. They get a lot of Budget and Uhaul refugees. We were recently quoted about $2500 for a 22’ with car one way OH-TV.

Just an innocent fyi, my daughter is moving from LA to Dallas....15 ft truck.....$4,800. Truck from Dallas to La.....$800.

I had a U-Haul dealership for years in Ohio and true a reservation for a local move will get bumped if a One-Way needs the truck. We sadly had to explain to irate customers why their local reservation could not be honored, bad business practice. U-Haul was just a sideline to our regular auto sales/ rental business.

Try a POD. I have used both POD and the Uhaul version. POD was way better
