9 year old driving a golf cart

From an unnamed news source. A grandmother allowed her 9 year old granddaughter to drive the golf cart with grandmother in the cart. An accident happened with the 9 year old driving. The cart rolled over and grandmother injured and rushed to the hospital.
Please everyone, don't let children drive golf carts!

I was wondering how long it would take some “person” to rehash that tired expression.

On the other hand, if people didn’t keep rehashing it, it wouldn’t be a tired expression

Incident did not qualify for a Darwin Award thankfully. Anyhow, I think 14 is too young for drive a golf cart especially around here with street driving requured. 16 sounds better.

That child could have hit and injured or killed a pedestrian or bicyclist. When grandma recovers she should extremely thankful that no one except herself was hurt. She could very well have lost everything she owns or ever will own in a lawsuit. Stupid, stupid, stupid.

As far as the "Darwin Award" being rehashed to death, if people would stop competing for it, it wouldn't be used over and over again.

Nah. “Darwin Award” is worn out. Just like “Nuff said” and all the emojis people complete their posts with.

How does a 9 yr old reach the gas and brake peddles ?

EdFNJ 07-09-2022 06:02 PM

I've seen children younger than that sitting on Grandpa's lap driving down the MMP's. We also have seen dogs on drivers laps with their paws on the wheel on our daily walks from Amelia to LSL every morning. I guess it is possible the dogs might be of legal driving age (in dog years of course).

Probably the same way the 4ft tall grandmas/pas do. ;)

I've been googling to try and find that bolded part about a 9 year old getting a ticket and being prevented from getting a license til they're 18, but I can't find it anywhere. Since you're not required to HAVE a drivers' license to legally drive a golf cart, I find the bolded statement pretty dubious.

I just copied and pasted it from the article in the unmentionable news source. I do not vouch for its accuracy.

Well, the article came from the Villages-Nudes.COM (name changed to avoid ******) so it must be true. :D It didn't say they WILL be ticketed but COULD BE".

It might be 322.05(2)(a). The department may not issue a license to a person at least 16 years of age but under 18 years of age unless that person holds a valid learner's driver license for at least 12 months, with no moving traffic convictions, before applying for a license.

Doesn't exactly match the "ticketed under 14" but the ticket, with conviction, might be considered the moving traffic conviction that makes them ineligible for a license until they are 18.

A "moving traffic conviction" is not a ticket. You can get a thousand tickets but unless you are found guilty of the violations, none of them are convictions.

The statement, as I'm interpreting it, means that when the 9-year-old turns 16, she can get a learner's permit. And as long as she doesn't get any moving traffic convictions within the next twelve months, she can get her drivers license.

Kids don't belong in the Villages.
