Facebook MarketPlace Scams

Hi all just a heads up tried to sell item on Facebook Marketplace. Out of 4 wanting it, 1 backed out, the other 3 were scams. 2 asking to respond to a provided code. These seem to be robo replies as my Xf$3% responses didn't stop their repeating same request. The last imitated ZELLE with BOA email on limits etc. Email address was NOT Zelle! Whew! Lesson learned gotta be very careful. Checking further on Google both were clearly outlined as scams!!!

Facebook Loaded with Scams

Facebook is saturated with scams. A quick “I’m interested. Can you send me your number?” or “I’m out of town, but I can pay for it now. Do you have Zelle?” are becoming quite common if you just post something for sale. This will be generated almost automatically within the first 2 minutes of your posting.

There are new ploys if you are buyer on the social media website too. Legitimate looking add pages are posted for almost anything with the prices too irresistible to pass up. They have a legit whole business pages set up and even an email confirmation is sent to you when you buy. Messages like “Only 2 left at this price” are set up or self generated with counters to pull everybody in. The flags start to pop up after it is too late.

First you may notice that your credit card went to PayPal. Next, a day or two later you see the the links to the business website where you purchased from doesn’t work, finally you email the address and get a Domain error (usually Outlook).

The bottom line is Facebook as well as other social media sites should be approached with extreme caution in today’s world. Tech savvy crooks are well beyond what you think in abilities.
