The Queen’s “Sendoff”
 

I’m not a huge fan of the UK Monarchy but they certainly know how to pull off a spectacular funeral and such.

I happened to tune in yesterday morning and was mesmerized. The precision. The beauty. The perfection of it all. Seems as though everything was planned and practiced for decades… a British analyst stated that it was. The Queen had detailed plans for this event. And the Brits had a large airplane hangar to practice it all for decades.

He ended by saying The Brits absolutely know how to stage a Spectacle as this. They sure do. Hats off to them and the solemn mourners the last 10 days.

That said, now we may be in for another “show”. The Harry situation. And apparently King Charles will be trimming the Royal staffs.

Yes we do put on a 'Jolly good Show'!
However you can take the quote about the aircraft hanger and decades of practice with the biggest pinch of salt you can find.
Certain things are planned before as far as church and the Queens personal request go, but the military and public side of the parade is rehearsed after the Monarch dies.
Over the centuries we have had a lot of practice!

Nobody beats the Brits for pageantry.

We are ex-pats and loved watching the royal funeral. If you are born in the UK ceremony such as this is accepted as the norm.

You may notice something familiar about the procedure.
I was in military then, and the only difference between the funerals was, our drill and dressing was better than yesterdays!!:icon_wink:

Can't say that they were the Pathe' films or not...but yes. I've seen clips of Sir Winston Churchill's funeral. The part that I most vividly remember is when the barge carrying the coffin proceeded downriver, the construction cranes bowed as it passed.

Powerful, and touching.

Not a Brit, but I know as much or more about Churchill as anyone, studying his life and career extensively while in college as well as following. I don't know if the modern world really knows just how much it owes to that man.

i heard it was beatrice & Dad, & of course harry-me-again left a long time ago. i think it's the right thing to do. the Royals in now have class & dignity. hoping for the best for the new King :super:

Yes, beautifully done. I think her majesty would have approved. And what pleased me was there seemed to be no significant protests or violence anywhere in the world. Just the odd guy, but nothing special. That was a relief.

She seemed like a genuinely humanitarian woman with real empathy for people. And did not seem to take herself too seriously. 5 Queen Elizabeth quotes: '''Let us not take ourselves too seriously.'''

I’m guessing the money spent on the 10 days of services exceeded the GDP of many of the British Commonwealth’s 56 countries.

Does anyone know what the funeral cost and who actually pays for it,or which branch of govt pays for it. Just for interest, nothing more.

Not your problem really.
The majority of us Brits consider it money well spent.
One thing for sure, it did not cost as much as The US taxpayer has to find each year to pay for your Presidents well being!
No one will actually ever know the exact cost of funeral, but estimates from past occasions put it as up to £10 million.
Given the amount the Crown Estates put into the Exchequer each year, petty cash!
