Humming Birds
 

Has anyone one been able to attract humming birds in this area? Were located in the Village of Fernandina, my wife outs out two feeders and we have not seen any yet.

We have only occasionally seen hummingbirds in our six years here. They seem mostly attracted to plants rather than feeders. They are definitely not here in big numbers. This is perhaps because we are not on the overland migration path from the north to the south. Flying from Florida across the Gulf to Mexico is extremely difficult for hummingbirds as their style of flight requires such huge reserves of energy for anything like that distance.

About two months ago we had a pair enjoying our hummingbird feeder multiple times a day but they only stayed about a week.

Have only had intermittent success at home in the villages, Santo Domingo. Our two pairs here in CT have finally headed south.

They seem to enjoy our Bottlebrush Tree..
