For my money, another tribute band "Almost Queen" is far superior. I saw them a couple of times when I lived up north, and they really pull it off. If interested, here is a clip of them doing "Love of my Life". If you run it next to the actual Queen clip where it was performed live, it is chilling how close it comes to the real thing. Unfortunately, they stick around the NE mostly, so not ever expecting to see them here. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pS_0IYFC3gQ |

I was skeptical, but sure, whatever. We get there and in the hotel bar, there is Brian May, John Deacon, and Roger Taylor. We try to approach, but their security blocks us. We stand at a distance for awhile, and then they get up to leave. As they approach the elevator, my friend pulls out the concert book he bought to get their autographs. John and Roger are cordial and sign, but quickly walk away, with security pushing us back. Then Brian May comes over. My friend was 6' 2" and Brian TOWERS over him. He hands him the concert book and star-struck, says "We came all the way from (small town in Missouri) to see you." Brian doesn't miss a beat and says "Wow (small town in Missouri)? That's great!" My friend asks "Is Freddy around?" Brian May says, almost sad, "Freddy doesn't really hang around with the band." We certainly learned more about that later, sadly. Still, one of the best memories of my life. |
Pass. How about getting Rain to perform.

Saw Absolute Queen last time they came around. Saw Queen back when they were at their peak. The Absolute Queen band was good, but Fake Freddie was just okay. An old chubby guy with one "Freddie" move was disappointing. The worst part was they tried to do something that not even Queen did onstage---they attempted to sing the harmonies in the middle of Bohemian Rhapsody. Freddie and company left the stage during that part and played the recording. At the time, I didn't understand it, but after watching the movie and seeing how many takes it took to get that part just right I can see why they would do that. Absolute Queen should take a hint from the originals and do the same. Their version was the worst I've ever heard. Won't be going back. Wouldn't mind seeing Almost Queen if they ever come around here.
