Small cars on golf cart paths
 

We have seen numerous small mini cars on the golf cart paths.
Is this something that is allowed by TV?
I realize that they appear to be the right size but I assume they are Street legal and go faster than a typical golf cart.

I see you are a newer poster. The small car you are referring to is a choice for some, has heat and air. Give some the comfort of traveling with windshield wipers, and more. So it’s a golf cart with amenities. Rarely do you see street legal carts now a days. Insurance is really outrageous

Yes, not only can they travel on cart paths, but also on golf courses. Problem with using one the course’s for me is doors are not removable so open door shut door multiple times.

True. It is an easy mistake for someone not familiar with those carts to make. Some of them look a lot like those Mercedes Smart cars sold a few years back.

On the other hand I HAVE seen a Toyota Yaris on an MMP last year about this time...

They are golf carts, not street legal, there are a few around, but not many, and not really good for golf.

They're called Atomic Golf Cars. You can look them up to see what they look like.

You are likely seeing the atomic golf carts. We have one. They're on a golf cart frame and are governed to go golf cart speed. They have ac, heat, radio, power door locks, power windows and steal safety bars in the doors and frame. You can see them at the atomic golf car store near Brownwood paddock, right across from Spurs hardware.

They are "golf carts" so to speak. They are no less a golf cart than the lawnmowers with the antique bodies or Cadillac shells attached to them. I have had 2 (Atomics) over the 6 years I have lived here. They may or may not be street legal and even if they were street legal they are permitted on the MMP's. Mine was for a year, but now is not. There are many used on the golf course. I see them all the time at Mallory when we walk by. There are 2 other brands that are sold locally. Their best thing is they are air condition, heated, wipers, power windows etc.

There is no speed limit on the MMP (Ever seen a sign? Ever see any in writing?) the limiting factor is determined by definition of the vehicle itself .

Here is the LEGAL definition of a golf cart here in FL:
–As used in the Florida Statutes Golf carts are defined in section 320.01(22), Florida Statutes, as “a motor vehicle that is designed and manufactured for operation on a golf course for sporting or recreational purposes and that is not capable of exceeding speeds of 20 miles per hour.”

For the LEGAL definition of a "street legal golf cart" (AKA LSV) here in FL:
Section 320.01(41), Florida Statutes, defines LSVs as “any four-wheeled vehicle whose top speed is greater than 20 miles per hour, but not greater than 25 miles per hour.” LSVs must be registered, titled and insured with personal injury protection (PIP) and property damage liability (PDL) insurance. Any person operating an LSV must have a valid driver license in their immediate possession.

Note there is no "moving speed limit" but a MANUFACTURING limit on speed based on the type of vehicle (golf cart & lsv).

To answer your next question: YES, probably 90% of GOLF CARTS around here do go at more than 20MPH either (illegally) modified by the dealer or the owner and whether they are set to go 1mph over or 10mph over they are technically not legal but of course the odds of getting stopped for that violation is very slim but very expensive.

Djean....that's Sparrs store. Not really a hardware store, much more than that. Almost like Rural King, but smaller

I could see TV implementing a width restriction in the future especially on Spanish Springs bridge over 441 and LSL bridge.

If you see them on the path what conclusion would you come to? Time to make a decision!!

I own an Atomic golf cart. I can see where you have mistaken them for small, smart cars, as they look similar. I occasionally have someone waving their arms at me and yelling, "You're on the golf cart path!" I just wave back, smile and say, "It is a golf cart", and move on with my clubs on the back. They are great in inclement weather. They have air conditioning, heat, windshield wipers, a backup camera, bluetooth and some other great amenities, but are a little bit of a pain on the golf course because of having to open and shut the door on each hole.

I'd also add, based on observation, that 90+% of "street legal" golf carts go over 25 mph. I was on BV going 38 mph and got passed by one.

I don’t think the speed has anything to do with them on the golf course, more of the weight and sometimes what kind of tires you have. Seen them around no big deal, but when I saw a motorcycle trike coming out of a tunnel that surprised me!

I saw a dune buggy on the MMP along Buena Vista North of 466. Stick around long enough and you'll see just about anything...although it has been a while since somebody got their car stuck in a golf cart tunnel.
