Home security system in The Villages?
Is a monitored security system necessary in TV?
The choices are: >do nothing because....... >add security system but no monitoring. >add security system with monitoring. Most of our friends/neighbors and family do not have a home security "system".......many have cameras, doorbell camera and apps on their phones, etc. There are even those who have the signs and window stickers with nothing else. Evaluating my current "system" and curious about other points of view. _______________________________________________ :censored: |
Monitoring will not stop a break-in.
A loud alarm will impact a break-in. From this point, wired vs. wireless, contact vs. motion. |
To have or not to have is a personal choice. I think paying for monitoring is a waste of money. A loud alarm will scare a burglar away, but you may also have issues with false alarms.

If you’re going to have one I would have it monitored. With the Ring system you can have the camera doorbell, alarm system, cameras, flood sensors and a few other devices all integrated into the same monitoring account. Ring monitoring is cheap. $10 per month or $100 per year. That not only gets you the monitoring but also stores all your doorbell and camera video.
You can control and monitor everything from your phone. Answer your doorbell when you’re not home. View video from your cameras live or playback later. Get texts and push notifications in your alarm goes off. Get notified if you a flood sensor activated. Get notified if your smoke detectors are going off. |

I chose not to have it monitored initially, and have continued to do so, believing the alarms will immediately scare the intruder away. The system is super easy to set up and install. Their customer service is extremely helpful with any issues you may encounter. |
Are there a lot of home burglaries?

I have an Abode security system. You can choose from self-monitoring or professional monitoring for a monthly fee. They also have an option where you can sign up for professional monitoring for a short period without any contracts, which is great for when you’re going on vacation.

We have 6 cameras at our home. Two outside, four inside. All message us when something is detected. Seems good enough for use. Should also mention the we also have faux cameras out side in the front to act as deterrent s.

Large dog bowl on the porch helps.

I have five Arlo cameras, nine Blink cameras and the Blink doorbell cam. I mixed both systems inside and out. I prefer the Blink system. Because I purchased both systems when they came with “free cloud storage”. I was grandfathered in and do not pay a fee. I self monitor.
On a side note, Blink now has a “pan able” new base for their mini cam that you can control with your phone. Blink is owned by Amazon. Both systems can be enabled by Alexa and viewed on Amazon Alexa show or a fire stick enabled tv. |
NRA stickers don't hurt.
