UCSF Scientists report that Full Body Imaging Scanners pose serious health risks.
 

Scientists at the University of California - San Francisco have been trying to get the government to listen to their concerns to the effect of irradiating everyone at our airports. Children and Women at risk for breast cancer are at more at risk of health problems.

These scientists are not satisfied with the governments response to this rapid proliferation of these X-ray machines, in good order, but who's monitoring these machines. If one develops a glitch and radiation is increased, are the operators trained to respond.

Government officials say it's low dose, and if the dose was distributed throughout the body it may be of little consequence, but the radiation is only penetrating and irradiating the first few millimeters of skin and your skin takes the full brunt of the dose.

This is one big science experiment and we are the guinea pigs.

When I get a dental Xray they put a lead vest over my front and the operator is licensed by the state to do the Xray.

The one taking to xrays also leave the room before the xrays are taken.

May be something to it, however I have to consider the source. UCSF has never been known for it's unbiased research and opinions in the past. And this technology has only been in place for a very short time and yet they have had time to do a through study of it's effects? Sorry, I don't buy it. They have a track record of findings that support their opinions not actual results.

All kinds of uproar about the increased airport security, full body scanning and enhanced patting down of passengers..(We used to call that copping a feel), but here's the question. What is being done at airports outside of the US? Have the same measures and technology been employed, or does the TSA think the biggest threat is from folks boarding airplanes in the US. Seems to me the most recent actions took place with cargo from overseas airports and terrorists who boarded planes outside of the US.

Just wondering and still puzzled.

Well, I'm living in Germany for another 3 weeks and I can tell you the security at the airports in Germany is very tight! I have not seen any body scanners, but they do use very sensitive metal detectors and the "very friendly" pat down, if you make it beep.
After a pat down, I normally have a cigarette :a040:

I go through London quite often and I find security at Heathrow to also be rather tight.

UCSF (University of California San Francisco) Med Center is highly regarded in the medical community.

The real question here should be: Is it better to suffer the invasive indignity of a Full Body Scan or a hopefully sensitive pat down or would you prefer to run the risk of being blown out of the sky by a mad man/woman suicide bomber. For my part, I'll take the X Ray and/or the touchy touchy as the preferable alternative.

Personally we aren't so worried about the X-ray nor the fondle, but the sheer time and money wasting.
