Knee replacement: nursing-home rehab

My wife is about to have knee replacement. She is considering, postop, staying in a nursing home for a week or so for the initial rehab/physical therapy. Has anyone had any experience with the local facilities?

Freedom Point, if you can get in. Next would be Lady Lake Specialty Care. Arbor Village is way down on the list.

Do NOT go to The Club at Mulberry. I just had a hip replacement and went there. It was horrible. I was ignored and no one cares. DO NOT GO THERE!!!!

I can tell you from practical experience that I have sent people to all of the above facilities. I have had great reports from each of them and awful reports on each of them. I guess a lot depends on the patient. Not sure.

Take your pain medicine!

I've had both of my knees replaced (one at a time). My surgeon in VA. stated to me that 25% is surgery and 75% in therapy. Do exactly as they tell you and take your pain medication before the therapy. The therapist came to the house twice a week after I was release from the hospital. Yes it hurts doing the therapy. I wanted my life back so I could walk again. Plan on eight weeks for a complete recovery. The Misses should be doing pre-operation exercises and there will be post operation exercises. Good luck, she can do it! My only restriction in life is don't RUN. No problem!

We have had friends stay in Freedom Point and they both loved it.

Exercise care in choosing to go to a hospital and/or nursing home unless absolutely necessary. Both harbor bad bugs....C Diff and MRSA being the 2 obvious ones. Will insurance cover home rehab visits?

The Club, up on RT 42 in Marion County is an excellent rehab

Are you using outside rehab because you are unable to help her with daily things? There are home machines that can be delivered for after care..Usually you only rehab at a facility if no one can care for you at home..Home is always best for care and you can always have a home care nurse come visit..just saying from experience

After a knee replacement I went to rehab for a week in Boca Raton (my choice to either go there or go home). It was okay but very busy. I did not get the attention that I got from the therapist who came to the house after my stay in rehab so if you are able to help your wife, she may be better off at home. I think Geewiz and asianthree's points are excellent.

The Club decided to open its "short term" rehab facility to all nursing home patients. They went from 20 rooms to 58 in a few days and didn't increase the staff. It was a horrible exetene and not what I expected.

Not any more. I researched it before my hip replacement. At that time is only had 20 beds filled. In early January they decided to open it up as a nursing care facility and went from 20 beds to 59, but didn't increase the staff. I didn't realize it when I arrived on January 11th. The care I got was non-existent and the whole experience was absolutely horrible. I left earlier than planned.

The Club Health and Rehabilitation Center

Do not use The Club Health and Rehabilitation Center at Mulberry. In early January they opened it up to nursing care patients. They didn't increase the staff and the care was non-existent. The staff is overwhelmed and unfriendly and lacks compassion. It was a horrible experience resulting in me leaving earlier than planned.

No, no no. It is horrible. It has become a nursing home!!!
