Nashville
 

Will be going to Nashville at the end of March for a few days. Any suggestions on things to do?

Ryman auditorium. Get the tour. The Gulch. Broadway. Martins bbq with Biergarten. Opry is not near downtown but worth the drive

We were only there for 2 nights. We spent the first night in the city and then spent the second night at The Gaylord which was amazing and they had a shuttle to the Grand Ole Opry which is on the same property. In hindsight I would have stayed longer in the city proper where the Ryder is and many other sights and museums.

Go down Broadway in the evening and stop in a few places to listen to the up and comers.

We've been there a couple of times and here are a few suggestions: 1. seeing a show at the Grand Ole Opry is worth the time and money, just to experience it. 2. Even if you don't stay there, a walk through the inside gardens of Gaylord Hotel is really interesting and is near the Grand Ole Opry. 3. Also in that area is the General Jackson Showboat, which is an old paddle wheeler that goes from the Opry area down the river to Nashville and back with a really good dinner show. 4. walk up and down Broadway to see all the bars and interesting music joints. At least visit the old Ryman Auditorium, even if you don't do a tour. 5. visit the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum is really interesting, even if you are not a C &W fan. 6. take the Gray Line tour to see all the surrounding areas of Nashville, including the Parthenon (which is a replica of the one in Greece) and Music Row. The Gray Line Tour office is right next to the river at the foot of Broadway. 7. take a tour of the RCA Studio A where much of the 50's & 60's music was recorded, and stand in the very spot that Elvis and many other stars recorded their songs. 8. go to the Bluebird Cafe where many of the recordings stars and song writers got their first break. That should keep you busy for at least a week. :wave:

Belle Meade plantation is also nearby and is interesting.

isn't Dollywood there?

You got the right state, but Dollywood is about 200 miles to the east of Nashville and would be a 3.5 hour drive. Probably a little far for the person who started this thread. It is near Pigeon Forge

OP, depending on the time of year, the Grand Ole Opry has had two locations with the winter season at the historic Ryman Auditorium in downtown and other times at its venue near the Gaylord Resort out of downtown.

Also, as suggested, if you enjoy country music, you might walk downtown on Broadway among the many bars that have free country music performers. Many of these country bands have a lot of talent and are hoping to be ‘discovered’.

Nashville is a lot of fun.

There’s so much to see and do and much depends on your length of stay and what you enjoy. My recommendation would be to do the hop on hop off tour the first day. That will give you a good overview of what there is to see and where. Our drivers were quite knowledgeable and entertaining.

I second the Opry. We went in October. BTW, I'm not a big country fan, but they put on a great show.
