Sumter County ranks top 10 in state grad rates

The Sumter County School District is helping even more students walk across the stage with a diploma in hand. The district ranks eighth in the state for graduation rates, according to the Florida Department of Education, at 93.1% for the 2021-22 school year, up from 91% the year before. All three high schools in Sumter

Sadly, The Villages school is excellent, but all the schools that are not charter schools in this area are in dire need of help. The state rates near the bottom in the country. Wildwood schools really need more so those kids can compete equally with the kids who are lucky enough to have parents that have jobs in the Villages( if they lose the job though, the kids must leave the schools, if a child has emotional or behavior issues, they can legally remove any child that does not meet all the rules. That gives the numbers a great advantage, public schools accept and try to educate every child with no exceptions.)
When are schools are created equal is when our country will see our issues go away.

The problem this state has politicized education so badly. That no want to teach here or have anything to do with teaching. It is a shame that if you do not think the same way someone else does that person can make your life miserable. Let's talk about educating and not banning cause it does meet your views. We need to do better.

Oh my favorite Deity, you have said something less than wonderful about our Bubbl-head land. The pitchforks will be out after that post (which told TRUTH to POWER). But, maybe some of the pitchfork people chasing me will veer off and chase you for a while. Run hard and don't look back! Nice to see a fellow runner.

True that! And a further TRUTH is that we need the surrounding areas of TV Land to get pulled up by their educational bootstraps BECAUSE all US citizens have SKIN in that game. If you let the outskirts of our BUBBLE become uneducated we risk retaliation by CRIME, which very well could increase here in LA, LA Land. WE have a prison on TV Land's southern border and they have visitors and relatives of shaky character and even the guards are underpaid - even they could cause trouble in the BUBBLE.
..........Education is KEY to Florida's economic development and in the US's economic war with China and Russia. Failure to provide good PUBLIC,YES PUBLIC SCHOOLS will further make America LESS competitive with Europe, England, South Korea, Japan, Australia, and any country that VALUES PUBLIC education.
.......Don't believe me, just look up where the US ranks in Education around the World......we are about 30th.
.........And ask WHY........because US people do NOT want to PAY their fair share for education. And the upper incomes find ways to AVOID paying THEIR fair share. And you don't need to look far .......the problems are obvious here locally and in the State of Florida.

Couldn't the stat also indicate students being graduated without really being qualified?

The U.S. pays far more per student than most other countries. This chart at the web page link below is from the national center for education statistics. However, it can be argued that the money is not well spent (too many admins/non-teachers, etc).

COE - Education Expenditures by Country

You mean - ever since the state lowered the requirements for measuring standards, that the standards themselves are lower? Because if that's what you mean - then yup I agree.

It's not hard to graduate high school if you only have to be able to read at an 8th grade level to get the diploma.

AND... We spend MUCH, MUCH more per student in failing schools than they do in successful schools...

But let's throw MORE money at the problem, rather than fix the core issue...
