Golf Ball Price Hike
 

Several weeks ago Titleist introduced their new 2023 Pro V1 and Pro V1X. At the same time they increased their price to $55 a dozen. At the recent Golf Festival I inquired if they had the new Pro V1 balls in stock. The answer was no not yet. So I was going to settle for the last year model but the pro shops have increased the price on last years balls to the same as the new ones which they do not have in stock yet. Just want all to be aware just because you get to pay the new price doesn't mean you are getting the newest technology.

I've played 150 rounds of golf in The Villages this year and I've yet to play with anyone whose game justifies (or will be improved) by playing $55/Dozen golf balls.

To say nothing of the fact, that Titleist doesn't recommend Pro V1 or V1X's for 98% of golfers. The recommended swing speed to benefit from a Pro V1 is 98 mph-105 mph. Hardly typical in TV (or anywhere else for that matter).

I live on Havana course in front of me is a Par 3 88-120 yd. approx. hole. 90% of the golfers going by never reach the green off the tee. Women seem to be better than men at least on this hole. I doubt a. $5 golf ball would help.

You can play 350 rounds per year and you still won't find that player in TV.

I have the swing speed, but there are plenty of balls that compete (& beat) ProV's at half the price.

People get sucked into the advertising dollars.

I play Chromesoft and FBs

Both types work just fine for me. Especially when I’m running low on my Chromesofts and need to switch to a FB especially troubling shots near water.

I then usually use a FB. Found Ball.

Give those men tampons

Maybe for some, this is a concern. For me, considering the number of balls I've hit into various water hazards around here, $55 a dozen would be a huge excess.

Along those lines, though...we do play a lot of tennis and there was a pretty significant tennis ball shortage that only recently has become somewhat alleviated. Along with the shortage were the inevitable hugely inflated prices, often on brands that I've never seen before. Lots of name-brand balls available now, but the prices are still significantly higher than pre-shortage.

I have never seen that recommended swing speed information. Where does it come from?

Does Titleist say that?

Titleist would never say, don't buy our ball.
