Truck Spraying Mist Friday 2-24-23 10:15 pm

We are in Fernandina, and happened to be outside at 10:15 pm on 2-24-23.
A pickup truck came past spraying a foggy mist that came directly at us.
What is being sprayed for, and what are the chemicals being used?
There was no advance notice about this spraying taking place.
Would like to know what we are being exposed to.
It seemed to being done through out Fernandina, and mostly likely other Villages also.
Anyone know what this is???

I assume they still spray Permethrin...Harmless unless you don't have a backbone.

Paraquat?

Sumter County sends a text when spraying in your area. Sign up for the alerts on the website. We heard them the other night and closed the windows.

I gotta say, I surprised that someone has never seen the "mosquito truck" before. No big deal, just surprised.

Is pyrethrin safe for bees?
or malathion, which are also highly toxic to bees. Permethrin and Pyrethrins, often combined with Piperonyl Butoxide, are also used for tick control, as are other insecticides highly toxic to bees.
CT.gov

To reduce risk, but not completely, spraying is done at night

VERY GRATEFUL that Sumter county does this! Without spraying, we would not be able to live here unless thousands of bats were to move in to replace the mosquito control. I know I had to live in area without control for short time. We couldn’t get outdoors. Especially my younger son and I who have their favorite blood type. We had to spray Deet on our clothes if out more than five minutes. Thank you Sumter County!

We’re new here (just over one year) but live in Marion County. Is something similar (spraying/alert system) done here?

Thank for being transparent about living in Florida at villages.

Cpecka 02-27-2023 07:32 AM

What? Did you not play in the DDT clouds when you were a kid?

An alternative to Geet is Avon Skin so Soft.
Before travel in areas known for Mossies, take Brewers yeast tablets daily for 2-3 weeks before traveling, and rub The Skin so Soft on daily on arrival.
Over the years both have worked for us in some really 'Buggy' places.
You may stink of beer from the Brewers yeast, but you have lovely skin!
