Dryer vent and Air duct cleaning

Just had our dryer vent and air ducts cleaned by Airquoac.com 352 552-5577.

When Matthew put a camera into our return duct I was shocked seeing all of the dust, lint and dirt that was in there. He did a thorough job and cleaned up well
afterwards...I will have him back in 6 months to do the dryer vent again...

6 months ? sounds humorous, but I use my leaf blower on the dryer vent hose… once a year and see a nice display of lint exit my vent ( stay tuned for more helpful advice using a leaf blower inside your home)

A post here recently warned that the air ducts are curvy and the machine can pierce a duck causing major problems. Did you discuss how to avoid this problem with your contractor?

Actually I did ask, He said All of the equipment is professional and designed not to damage the ducts and the brushes used are a soft fiber and self feeding.

They are designed not to hurt your ducts, but.... I had mine done a while back. The following week I started to notice dust. After much time by the ac guys, several times, I think they have repaired the hidden damage.
I would never have this done again in any home I own again.

Dryer ducts are metal

Unlike the HVAC ducts which are flexiable tubing that can be torn during cleaning the dryer duct is a metal pipe going out through your roof. Typically the dryer vent cap is removed on the roof, inspected and cleared of lint/dirt. The dryer vent pipe is cleaned with a brush on a cable that is moved up and down the pipe. That lint can restrict the air flow and in some cases catch on fire. Dryer vent cleaning should be done periodically. How often? We do ours every 18 months because past experience has shown this is when the lint has built enough to need cleaning. The cleaning frequency depends on your specific situation (the number of dryer cycles and how effective the dryer screen is in catching the lint).

According to the NFPA dryer ducts should be cleaned yearly to not only prevent a fire but to increase efficiency of your dryer saving dry time and money in your utilities. I use All Lint A Way. They are owned and operated by Village residents who are veterans and retired first responders. They do a great job for only $70. They even changed a light bulb and the batteries in the smoke alarms if you have them for no extra cost. In case anyone’s interested, their number is 352-470-1691 or you can just go to their website.

I really lucked out.
Our dryer vents out a exterior wall by 10"-12", not through the roof.
