French retirement age??

France is raising its retirement age from 62 to 64.

And they are rioting and protesting!

Is raising the retirement age going to last ? Or will the government back down? And should it back down?

Sorry. Don’t care.

Maybe it is necessary to keep their national pension system viable in the future, (assuming they have something similar to our Social Security). The USA has made similar changes in the past and will be forced to do so in the future.

If you don’t pay into NATO… you have extra spending money

True, France is trying to keep their pension system from going into deficit. Despite the protests and Macron pushing this through without any vote on it, the government survived two votes of no-confidence, albeit narrowly.

There could be a censure of the bill, and for sure the protests will continue. A similar protest a few years ago over a hike in fuel tax was successful, and the hike was retracted.

These protests are different from France's normal strikes, which are advertised in advance with timetables and durations given.
Interesting to watch.

Retirement age is going to 64 in general, unless you are a garbage collector than it is going to 59. Seriously. What???

The government will surrender. They’re used to that.

The French public have a good record of winning protests.
They are also very good at getting great numbers onto the streets, and are not averse to a little arson, destruction and general mayhem.
There is however a specialist riot squad, (CRS) who seem to enjoy their work, and cracking a few skulls, so things can get interesting very quickly.
When UK Government raised our pension age, we had a mass shrug, and went back to moaning about the weather.
