A new book that “gets” the villages

Every Villager would have a different story to tell about why he, she or they moved into or out of the Villages and why.

Close by-- the couple wanted to help with their daughter's back pain and related medical problems.

One other pair of Villagers lost their granddaughter in the Parkland HS shooting and moved to be closely to some of their other grandchildren in a different part of Florida.

Other new Villagers moved here after one of their mothers passed away to occupy the house.

For ECONOMIC REASONS they chose to leave here after three years and move to a seaside villa near (high crime) Mazatlán, Mexico, while also maintaining their home in (more expensive than here) Central Oregon? Maybe “economic reasons” meant “because the economy has been good to us and we can afford it.”

Perhaps worth noting that this is a self-published “novella” (a little novel), not a novel. 307 pages, but with type I could read from six feet away in an optometrist’s office. I’ve written a number of books and edited more and taught writing, so I’m not without expertise. I read what is available free on online. I was not impressed by the quality of the writing or the humor. I didn’t smile. I wish I could praise it. By the way, the first line of the Gazette review—not in quotes—is a rip-off of a sentence from a review online that IS in quotes.

Why We Luv The Villages
 

As quoted from the article, my wife and I moved to The Villages because “If nightly dancing in the squares, free golf, cheap beer or floating on a noodle next to friendly neighbors in a heated pool isn’t The Fountain of Youth, I’m not sure what is,”. “The Villages is a retirement option that should be emulated, not criticized by writers who have never lived a day in the community.” Having moved from the Fascist state of California, we also love living in the "Free State" of Florida.

Ca. does NOT deserve that type of illogical put-down. Ca. has areas that are all over the spectrum in terms of attitudes.

. Notice that they RETIRED here. They made enough in CA to retire here. I really bristle when people knock their home area yet made enough to buy an expensive house here. Why didn't they choose to make their living here? Maybe because they don't pay as much here. They use their political gripes to make a point

Very true. It is a huge state with many people who have all kinds of different views.
