Drive defensively out there!
 

Returning from picking up a food order I cross the intersection by Freedom Pointe heading west. I cross the parking lot and observe the golf cart with blinding headlights come up behind me and, yep, decides he's passing me with a cart coming the other way causing the other cart to nearly flip over. Sadly I could smell the liquor vapors. Thank God no one was hurt. I can't give you his speed but he shot off like a rocket with no concern for other people's safety.

Lots of old people down here................You would think they have learned the value of defensive driving by now. :ohdear::ohdear:

Yeah. The other cart occupants were surprised as I. Driving around here wasn't as bad as it was 10 years ago. In the past 3 years it seems the careless attitude of endangering others has gotten bad.

Dam snowbirds. Oh, never mind, they’re gone.

Don't think age was mentioned with regards to any of the drivers. But, driving defensively is a good idea for everyone trying to avoid the drunks.

If you ever ride a motorcycle, you needed to learn to drive defensively early on. You always have to assume the worst and be prepared whether your riding a motorcycle, car, golf cart, walking, roller skating....

To bad this isn't the total answer on safety on a motorcycle.
It's how you dress, full face helmet, nothing less.
Complete protection head to toe, ready to meet the blacktop.
Accept the consequences on "what if" the day comes.
Understanding, (If you didn't die) we all heal slower in old age.

Harsh reasons above is why I sold my Goldwing.

Add alcohol to driving and it becomes a disaster waiting to happen. I have to wonder also, how many drivers actually took Drivers Ed. since applications taught are rarely seen here. Like stopping and yielding and lane-changing. IF you turn left always look both ways twice or more before going. NOT stopping or yielding is what is dangerous. Add in all the other infractions and it might lead to serious injury or death!! People will argue points given rather than conceeding that they quite honestly might be wrong. Speed is also a factor. JUST because y'all did it where you moved here from doesn't make it right.

So true. It's bad when you can smell the bourbon as they pass! I bet if everyone were required to take the written test to renew only about 20% of drivers over 50 years old would pass. It's apparent everyday on the road.

Too bad you sold your Goldwing. I am 76 and still enjoy riding my BMW RT. I think riding was just as dangerous when we were younger but many of us become very risk adverse as we age. We weren’t that way when we were younger. I ride ATGATT too. (“All The Gear AllThe Time.”) By the way if there is another sport touring biker out there who likes to ride locally send me a message. I like to ride in small groups.

Hhmm. Well. I guess I should have worded it differently. After living in the Villages for 10 years the number of potentially dangerous golf cart owners have grown in great numbers.

As have the number of "potentially dangerous" automobile drivers, bicycle riders and pedestrians...

Yeah, those "potentially dangerous" pedestrians really have me worried. That is why I only leave our home when I am inside my car.

They are "potentially dangerous" to themselves...

Especially when they step off the curb (not at a crosswalk) with their face buried in their phone, not paying attention to the car/bike/cart that can't possibly stop in time...
