Car Insurance

I've been with USAA for 60 years and they do have good coverage and I do get discounts. However the last renewal went up almost 20 percent. Is it time to shop, or is this universal? $2800 a year sounds like too much.

Never hurts to make a couple of phone calls.

I checked in with The Villages Insurance company, and the gal I spoke with worked wonders for us.

Wouldn’t you think. I’ve tried to get car coverage several times with USAA over the years each time they were way out of the ballpark, comparing same coverages. It only costs your time to get quotes from other insurers.

USAA here as well, just got our latest up 46% over 6 months. Decided to remove uninsured motorist coverage which was the biggest line item on our bill. Given that we're not going to be worried about lost wages or medical bills from an accident with an uninsured motorist, it seemed like a reasonable gamble.

I think you should be shopping around especially if you haven’t had any accidents or if they are holding your age against you, I’m paying around $1,450 for year on 2 year old car and I’m 84 ,that includes rental if car is in for accident.FYI I didn’t even bother shopping around , I’ve heard others say less but of course we don’t know what the real story is when we hear , someone told me , or I Heard .

I agree. I have not had uninsured motorist insurance since moving to Florida. In some states, it is mandatory, but not in Florida. If you have good health insurance and you don't plan to sue your insurance company for lost wages or pain and suffering, I don't see any reason to have the insurance.

Even if you buy the insurance, a $100K policy will be worthless when you consider the medical bills and the lawyer fees. You better plan on buying more than a million dollars in coverage to get anything worthwhile.

There are a LOT of uninsured motorists here in Florida, that's why its so expensive....even if you take the risk for health insurance, what's your car worth ? It won't be covered...

Would your car be covered under your own insurance collision clause ?

Some Insurance company's look at 85-year-olds as unsafe driving age and
will raise your car insurance rate at that age.

maybe ,maybe not but the master plan since I came to Florida a long time ago was to be home in Boston for good at around 85 or 86/and I may not even want a car anymore when I move back and if I don’t keep a car I can rent the parking space if I wanted to for obscene money lol
