Car Insurance

I posted earlier about how USAA increased my premiums. Time to leave USAA. Any recommendations on who to consider?

CoachKandSportsguy 05-22-2023 03:50 PM

So everyone's premiums are going up. . . was yours excessive? meaning > 10% for the year?
do you have the minimum out of pocket expenses?

do you have a bundled package with house and umbrella liability?

you can keep the same company with some tweaks for paying for potentially unneeded coverage. .

We are pleased with progressive, however this is bundled, house, golf cart, and cars.

When folks quote "their prices" on insurance (Auto, Homeowners and even golf cart) there are so many variables that determines "their prices" really makes it meaningless. I agree on The Hartford, I pay around $950 but comparing prices means nothing without knowing all the coverages, age and make/model of vehicles, deductibles, or costs of your home, size of your home etc etc. Only way to truly judge is comparing identical coverages between multiple companies otherwise tossing out numbers is of no value. FOr me Progressive was about $200 more than Hartford and Allstate was almost $800 more than anyone for apples to apples auto coverage. Haven't had an auto claim in like 15 years. Guess it depends on who needs new clients at any moment of any day. :)

That being said, just read today that USAA is in some financial straits (first loss ever) which could easily explain rate increases and/or cancellations.

Do not know how much you might save but USAA is one of the highest rated insurance companies.

Different options depending on how many miles you drive each year

AAA and be done

I already did all the research - but there are variables - if you find a better one - let us know.

Try Travelers with AAA

mikeycereal 05-24-2023 05:53 AM

I had Travelers goes up from $777 last year to $939 this year. I also heard there were 4,800 accidents in the villages last year, sounds crazy I know. But your zip code determines rates even if you drive with 0 incidents and your car is marked leisure for not every day driving and at less distance. We are always paying for others' poor driving... always been that way. I was going to have my broker try and find a cheaper one and cancel. Not crazy about a $162 hike for only taking it out 1/2 times a week. (2005 car, full cvg, not bundled w/home, just cart)

Where did you read about USAA's losses?

Rsenholzi 05-24-2023 06:08 AM

Think twice before leaving the top insurance company in the nation. I have the second best one. These 2 companies consistently come out on top. They also pay out quickly if you have a claim. Most of the others have raised their prices also. They also have been known to drop customers when they have more than 1 claim - such as an auto accident and a house claim. They then make it impossible to get insurance elsewhere . It happened to my mom and when she went to get it some place else , she was unable to get it for the rest of her life. Many refuse to pay out saying it’s an a act of God ( roof leaked and ruined an oriental rug - happened to someone I know . This was the first claim someone put in after paying insurance for 40 years. ) I know you are paying more and so am I but frankly they are the best and are known for it consistently. Btw, I saw a bumper sticker that said - if you have Allstate insurance, please don’t hit me 🤣

DARFAP 05-24-2023 06:08 AM

I have USAA for home, auto and an umbrella policy, which gets me a discount. My auto went up $104/6 months, not sure why. I have also noticed I am paying $259/6 months for each of my golf carts. This was a huge surprise to me. They used to be $50ish for the year.

Insurance Companies

Went to State Farm, this year, bundled car, home, and golf cart. Better coverage than the last carrier and cheaper.
