Stucco wisdom needed
How do you hang a nail or something to hold christmas lights or garland into stucco without harming it? I want to hang up garland and am afraid to try it. Thanks up front.

I've lived in stucco homes for 34 years and I don't think there's any way to put a nail into the stucco without chipping it. It can always be repaired, but then you'll have to paint where you've patched.
I'm not sure how those that decorate homes (professional companies) hang the lights. Maybe it's time to take a golf cart ride around the neighborhoods and take a look at how it's done on local homes. |
WE hang the majority of lights from the gutters. NO holes in stucco or nothing placed under the roof shingles

Good ideas ---all
Thanks for the responses

I recently put a flag holder on the stucco - just used the portable electric drill and installed the three screws - no prob.

They do work great but keep in mind they're a permanent mount. Can't back the screw out and reuse it in the same hole and get the same 'strength' out of it. Pick the screw size you need and the Tapcon box will tell you what size of pilot bit to get. The company markets those masonry bits as well - generally found in the same display as the screws. Might not hurt to put a small dollop of silicone sealer or caulking under the screw head before tightening it down, just to eliminate any chance of water infiltration. Some might say it's unnecessary but that can be left to the user's discretion. Bill |
There is also a clip/hanger for suspended ceiings that slips onto the metal grid. It could be applied to the wall angles that support the soffit, and the decorations( garland, lights, etc.) could be attached directly or hung on florist wire.

They now sell hangers that have a removable tape. Leaves no marks and can be used inside and out. Try home depot or any store like that.
