It has always been a celebration on the native side of the family. For the last 22 years We celebrate summer solstice, with sunrise, breakfast, picnic lunch, sunset, dinner, and Birthday cake. It’s our granddaughter’s birthday. She thinks born on summer solstice is as special as leap day.

I changed my desktop picture on my laptop. This year I selected a photo of four different colored Adirondack chairs on the beach. Now I know Summer has arrived!

How do I celebrate the summer solstice? I am down all day because every day after means the days get shorter. However, when December 21 rolls around I get happy.

I went to the internet to get an update. Today is only the Summer Solstice in the northern hemisphere. My son in Brazil is experiencing the winter solstice today. The closer you get to the equator the less important the solstice is to me.

Having lived in the Boston Ma area for 25 plus years the Solstice made a difference to me. I tend to get up when the sun rises. Today's sunrise in Boston was 5:07. It starts to get light at around 4:30 AM. Sets about the same time as here. In the winter solstice period late December, the sun sets at 4:11 which really sucks when you work until 4:30. The winter solstice signals that sunsetting time will start to get later. It's a length of daylight time.
