Tabs are breaking on window screens

One of the plastic pull tabs on one of my window screens has broken. I called Romac to see about getting a replacement tab and they told me that the entire window screen has to be replaced - you just can't replace a pull tab as it is part of the frame.

Is there a way to just replace the pull tabs rather than replace the entire screen? Where do you get the parts?

As always search Amazon.
Amazon.com

They will all break eventually. I carefully use a small screwdriver to lift them out.

I looked at the Amazon website. Does anyone know if those tabs will fit our windows? Are they one size tab fits all screens?

Does anyone have any experience with installing the tabs??

IMHO, if the screens are old enough for the tabs to fail, the screen material probably is ready to fail. I would have the screens re-screened and at the same time see if new tabs can be installed. You MAY be able to get D rings (used to hang pictures) and have these pop riveted to the frame.

Check ACE Hardware in Wildwood, they do screen replacements and repairs.

MY OPINION. Plastic become brittle over time. As far as AMAZON often you can ask questions.
I expect such a part is not very expensive. You can choose to order a set. If, it works I would replace all you have in your windows.

We've all been there. You have a chandelier with 4or whatever bulbs. I go into the mess I call my garage to dig out the ladder. It is ten feet up to where the chandelier is. If, I change ONE I know the others will blow shortly.

RATHER THAN AMAZON- I would try ACE. They are local, they stock solutions to this king of issue. A picture would surely help them to help you.

My screens are original to our home which was built in 2007. The D rings you describe are what I think we have in our screens. They are metal and have to be pulled up to use them. When not in use, they cannot be seen. Are those "D rings"? You are a wonderful host of information on this site and I thank you.

No I do not think the ones I was suggesting would work, UNLESS there is a slot for the tab on the D ring. I was thinking of attaching the D ring on the surface of the screen. I have seen versions that are light duty where the flat metal part was fairly thin.

As one other said, Ace in either Wildwood or on 466. They rescreen and can put new tabs on. They also can rebuild any screen that has bent or broken frames

There is also an Ace hardware on 441 in Fruitland Park and in Spanish Springs

bowlingal 06-24-2023 05:25 AM

Question... are the tabs supposed to be on the top of the screen or on the bottom?
