Specialty pharmacy in the new section

Has anyone heard if there is a specialty pharmacy being built in the new section of The Villages? My Brother-in-law is asking. Thanks.

What’s a specialty pharmacy?

He is not sure but my best guess would be a compounding pharmacy.

Google maps has the nearest ones off Highway 44, Leesburg or Villages.
Best to call any though to double check.

Not trying to sound snarky but if he’s not sure what it is, why would he think he needs one?

BIL was asking for someone else. Sort of like playing "telephone". I thought someone here might have the answer. Thought I would try.

Please define "specialty pharmacy". And please tell that it is NOT a place where alternative medicine quacks utilize questionable pharmacy practices in order to dupe unsuspecting patients into ingesting their crap. Please, tell me it is not so. Please.

A specialty pharmacy provides medications used to treat rare or complex health problems. Many times, these meds aren't used by many people, so a local pharmacy wouldn't keep them in stock.
Google.

I don't know about the new section of the villages but i needed a compound ointment and there were 2 in the Lady Lake area. This one was half the price as the other one.

Wellcare Pharmacy
Primary
13733 N US Highway 441
Lady Lake, Florida 32159, US

(Near Lowes and Bealls)

There is also one in Bellview. None of the village’s pharmacies did compounding.

Seventeenth Street Pharmacy in Ocala...sorry I don't have the phone number.
Think there's also one on 44 near the Pint-something restaurant. It's in Freedom Plaza. Again, don't have the number. I get my thyroid medication (compounded) from the Seventeenth St. one---they send it to me.

There is a huge difference between a specialty pharmacy and a compounding pharmacy. A specialty pharmacy manages patient care and support for patients with complex and chronic conditions - usually a very small percentage of the population - who require meds that are much too expensive for the local pharmacy to keep in stock.

A compounding pharmacy will create a capsule, per a doctor's prescription, usually with a blend of different meds.

Lake Sumter Landing pharmacy, under previous ownership, compounding capsules. It's worth a call to find out if they still do.

Talk with Publix. They have one in Orlando that ships to your door.

Not so… my wife was a cancer patient at the Mayo in JAX. Occasionally she needed a drug that was not available at CVS, usually very expensive ones. For example, one she needed a few times was to increase her blood cell counts before chemo treatments. It was an injection and I think was in the $5k range. We either picked them up at the Mayo pharmacy before we would leave and we had to wait for insurance approval) or they would send the injection via FedEx. Also, she was on feeding into her port post surgery. OptionCare was the pharmacy and considered “specialty”. The closest one is in Gainesville. They would ship via their own carrier in refrigerated boxes.

CVS has a specialty pharmacy. That’s where the medication I need comes from
